Acrylic thickness - 375 Gallon Build

If you use 1/2" for the back, it's likely gonna bow...we have several acrylic tanks, and the "off-the-shelf" tanks almost always bow because they're made with stock that's too thin.  You're planning a really nice, and I assume your "flagship" tank...I'd do it "right" from the get-go. Yeah I...

Acrylic thickness - 375 Gallon Build

So the tank height and length would be fine with 3/4" material.....Shouldn't be any crazy bowing or stress if properly braced up top. This being said, would I be able to use 3/4" for the front and back and 1/2" for the rest to save some cash? With my new dimensions? I'll probably go 3/4" all the...

Acrylic thickness - 375 Gallon Build

Aside from just the building design, are there any mechanical issues you guys see here? I know that I need to be on the lookout for salt creep. Other than that, what concerns would there be?

Acrylic thickness - 375 Gallon Build

So I think I've decided to knock down the height and make it a little bit deeper. I think I'll keep the height right at 24" and make it 38" deep. Making the "chambers" 32"x38"x24" (LXWXH). That will make each chamber right around 125 gallons. So, that being said, what thickness should I go with...

Acrylic thickness - 375 Gallon Build

Looks like they are still using 3/4" for that height as well.  It's a gamble to try and build an acrylic tank yourself as it is.  And unless I had professional tools and experience at my disposal than I would be real leery of pushing the limits and going with anything less then that.  But it's...

Acrylic thickness - 375 Gallon Build

Looks like builders typically go with 3/4" for this size tank.  I would consider that a minimum and just think of the dividers as extra credit given the experience curve.  Sounds like a neat idea for a tank. If you like to keep a variety of tanks then why not have them all in one spot.  Can't...

Acrylic thickness - 375 Gallon Build

Are you sure 3/4" is sufficient for 30" height? This is where I got the height information. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/diy_acrylic_aquarium.php

Acrylic thickness - 375 Gallon Build

I want to build a 375 gallon tank in the future and I'm looking at acrylic prices now. The demensions of the tank will be: 96x30x30 (LXWXH). The tank will be separated into three separate "chambers". Saltwater, brackish, freshwater. The dividers will be at 32". Making the "chamber" 32x30x30. I'm...

    Traveling with an aquarium.

Well this did not turn out at all like I imagined. Haha. I don't want the fish harmed in any way. I suppose returning the fish would be my best bet.

    Traveling with an aquarium.

So I'm in a bit of a bind. I live in Denver, CO but I've been temporarily relocated to Washington DC for a couple months. I couldn't go that long without a tank so I purchased a 20 gallon tank and it's currently home to a green spotted puffer. The time is coming up when I will be needing to...

3 different tanks built into one.

Are you going to put dividers down in bottom stand also? Also a suggestion coat the inside of your stand and canopy, I didn't and a wish I did. I didn't think about the dividers in the stand. That's an excellent idea. I'll definitely be coating the insides of the stand and canopy as well...

3 different tanks built into one.

Yes that would help. Right on. I don't mind cleaning either. I really think this would be a cool and unique tank if there aren't too many issues along with it.

Constant cleaning. The dividers built into the canopy wouldn't help? I'm thinking the dividers would have to come down and meet the top of the tank. I could even put some sort of gasket at the bottom of the divider to make sure no splashing or salt creep got over to the other tank.

3 different tanks built into one.

I'm not sure how you would do the lights.  Most reefs require really bright lights but freshwater doesn't.  I guess if you went with a light suspended over the reef the ambient light should be fine for the freshwater.  How are you going to keep the dividers clean? John I could do three separate...

I'm assuming the lid would help keep that in check?

3 different tanks built into one.

Hello all, So I've had this idea running through my head for quite some time now. What I would like to do is build a 300 gallon tank out of acrylic and divide it into three different sections. The first section would be a live reef tank. I love live reef tanks and I've gota have it. The second...

Setting up a 220 Gallon - Help with equipment
