    preparing for a shark

All good advice so far. Just wanted to suggest that you look into getting a reef ready tank in the 180+ range, unless you just don't mind buying another tank a couple years down the road. Check out something like the new all-glass 210 reef ready, not that much more than 125's. You'll want the...

What's the best hang-on skimmer ever?

I'd say your next best hang-on skimmer choice would be an aqua-c Remora Pro. It's thin and more hidden behind the tank. You will of course have the best selection of skimmers in the sump only category. Going with an amiracle(or similar U-tube) overflow really isn't that dangerous of a way to...

    ANother shark question--- HELP!

They can be so fickle at that stage. How is the water quality? Nitrates ok? If you havn't yet, try small pieces of squid late at night when he is more active. Maybe soak it is Selcon too. Also could try baby guppies and glass shrimp. How skinny is it? Just keep at it.

    Banded cat shark

if you're still having problems getting him to feed, have a suggestion. Try small pieces of squid or shrimp soaked in selcon, late at night when he is active. Baby guppies or grass shrimp might entice him too.

Should I Switch My Aggressive Tank To A Reef... Why Or Why Not?

Reefs are a pain in their own way too. I have a 72gal reef, and I find that if I don't keep on top of it something always starts going off course. You may have drama with your predetor tank (but you have kind of a wild group too), there will be different kinds of "drama" in a reef, funky coral...

Hoping for jaws but settling for Ghandi

Your coral cat may just be adjusting to his new tank, but assuming he is ok and when he adjusts, he will display normal feeding frenzy type behavior when food is put in the water. This is the normal reaction for any of these sharks under normal/established conditions, they should get quite...

    Coral Catshark

I've kept a 18-20 inch coral cat before, he wasn't too bad overall. When feeding however he got pretty aggressive and would grab any fish he ran across, but my bamboos do this too. Not sure how one would behave with an eel around.

    DIY Shark Tank

Bob Fenner has really turned me off with his arrogent attitude, "send me your shark questions and I'll make wise a$$ comments and tell you your tank is way to small...." I think Scott Michaels work is the best shark/ray resource I have found. Good info, reasonable estimates on care...

What can I do to get scratches out of my glass?

I was able to buff down a couple scratches on the front of my oceanic bow front (same reason, sand in magnetic cleaner  ) with toothpaste. They are not gone, but they are not that noticeable anymore. I used a grittier, paste type, whitening brand, and swirled it on (w/ old cotton shirt)...

Hypo on a community tank with a Bamboo shark

bkl, if you can't move him out for a while you probably ought to just leave him be in your main tank. Treatments for the shark when you aren't even sure he has ich would be unnecesary. Scott (michael), has kept leopard sharks, gray smoothhound, tasseled wobbegong, coral catshark, and the...

    Shark Question

The smallest that you would probably find at a retailer is a coral catshark, max length of 27" or so. These are good looking sharks too, more streamlined than bamboos. From there the next smallest would probably be a one of the bamboo sharks such as the brown banded. This is the most common...

Hypo on a community tank with a Bamboo shark

I checked Scott Michaels book on this, and couldn't find anywhere if bamboo sharks were tolerant of salinity changes, or euryhaline. He did say that most sharks aren't very tolerant of it. He suggests a 7-10 day time frame with an sg of 1.014 for salinity-change-tolerant euryhaline species...

    Remora Skimmer

I have a remora pro, pretty good hang on skimmers. You can put bigger pumps on them too, maybe a maxijet 1200 or mag 3 in your case.

    Suggestions for a shark tank

Have a few ideas for you. Any bamboos or Epaulettes would be ok, might be stretching a little with two (as adults). If you want a more streamlined look try Coral or Marbled Catsharks, great choice in my opinion, and you could keep two in that tank without a problem. I kept a Coral catshark...

    Shark Egg

I have "hatched" 3 bamboos in the past, and I think it's best to let them do it on their own also. Just keep a close eye on him. I have seen one egg case that was cut open on top so there was kind of a semicircular flap, but when the owner saw the shark was actually just fine, he left it be...

With just a shark you could cut down on your lighting quite a bit too. I'm guessing you are wanting clean up for nuisance algea.

Splash, I really like your tank setup. It looks like a glass tank to me, just wondering where you got it and in what price range it would run.
