using plain sand is a very bad idea. plain sand contains many many impurities and will cause an uncontrollable growth of algae in your tank, as well as diatoms. for such a small tank, your local lfs can probably just give you some live sand from a tank. if not, buy live sand and use that.
also make sure you use some kind of filtration/water movement system to simulate ocean current. i dont know if powerheads are sold for such small tanks..
