I lost a clown 2 weeks ago now a basslet is missing some of it tail fins. this also happened to the clown and with in a day the clown was dead. Water levels are great. I just resently change out my light system. when from florencent to 250 MH and 96 w actincs.
55 gallon 65 pounds of love rock and 3 corals zoos/mushroom/bubble
I have well water that runs through two stand filters. Not ro/di filtration
What do you think?

Keep an eye on that Lunare Wrasse. I had one in an aggresive tank with a Panther Grouper that ate the goldfish I gave to the grouper.

The wrasse is missing pieces of his fin? Well, he must not be the culprit then.

No not the Wrasse the basslet/ and the dead clown was missing pieces of its fins. LFS says maybe fin disease?

Do you have any way to separate the wrasse? I would think, and I am no expert, that if there was a fin rot disease in the tank all the fish would be affected at the same time. Maybe your LFS can take the wrasse back for a week or so and see if the fins grow out.

Ammonia and Nitrite should be at 0ppm. Nitrates are "ok", but the other two need to come down, and pH needs to come up. I don't think that has much to do with the fins and deaths though. I think you may have gotten some type of hitchhiker on your LR maybe. How long has the tank been setup and how long after did you notice all of this?

Tanks one year old.
The fish lost just started three weeks ago. He is not dead. But still doesn't look good.
Thank you for your help
I will do water change tomorrow.

What did you change to cause an increase in your ammonia levels? I didn't think an established tank would have an ammonia spike unless you added uncured rock or something dead.. What testing kit are you using?

the Lunar wrasse is a larger species of wrasse that is usually quite aggressive and more at home in an agressive type of tank then a community tank. The torn fins are text book examples of harassment. The wrasse also needs a larger tank than a 55. more like double that at least.

I just started cleaning my crushed coral. I had never cleaned it in one year. that may be a reason for the ammonia spike?

if you are cleaning it and causing a mess, you should just replace it with a much healthier choice that doesnt need cleaning, LS.
