Have you checked your levels?? Is it finished cycling? I know I would wait until it was finished cycling before I added any fish.

Have you only had the tank set up for a week? To know if your tank has cycled you would need to see a spike in amm and nitrites and nitrates and then the amm and nitrites should go to 0. After this cycle it would be safe to put in a hardy fish that does not require algae to survive. A couple of good starter fish once your tank is fully cycled are a royal gramma or clownfish. HTH

My tank has been up for 3 or 4 weeks now, but 1 with the live rick. No spike yet, I'll check my leves right now before I leave. I was thinking a clown, wouldn't it help the cycleing process anyways. Know what you mean by going to early, did it with my fw tank and paid by $. When I started my tank I had this stuff called cycle that was suppose to help the cycleing process, if that helps.

Ok so if it just spiked then you don't know yet how high or how long it will last. You need to continue to monitor by testing and be sure that it cycles all the way back to 0 (nitrates at 40 or less) and amm and nitrites at 0. Make sure it stays at those levels for several days before adding a fish. A clownfish might make it if you put it in towards the end of the cycle, but I totally believe you should not risk the life of anything which means don't add any fish until you are sure your cycle is finished. Patience is the key. I used to love just looking at the live rock and all the new stuff that was showing up on it. HTH

Yeah patience is the biggest thing in this hobby. When I first started I jumped the gun and ended up paying $$$$. Now I know the consequences. Remember patience.
