10 gal clean-up

Hey guys/gals what would be a good cleanup crew for a 10 gallon with possibly 5-10lbs LR and one "nemo" clown?

Hermits are going to add much to your bio load. They are there to keep the rock clean and stir up the gravel. Fish on the other hand produce a lot of waste and as a result they can quickly reduce the water quality in a tank. By all means do more research on the board I am by no means an expert . I'm only offering advice as to how I would do it if it were my tank. I would also recommend getting a lot closer to the 10lbs of LR rather than the 5lbs.

no no no I didn't take offense. I really mean it, get a bunch of opinions. SWF.com recommends getting 10 people opinion. Do some searches in the nano forum for clowns and10s andclean up crews for 10s. You may want to add half the snails first ad see how it goes. As far as the hermits go though they'll sort out the right number on their own.

Worst case scenario if for some reason your tank can't support 12 hermits then yes you might loose a couple but they will provide empty shells for the other hermits to move into (keeping them away from the snails).
Think about it this way, you are going to have a clown in there, possibly another fish too. You'll be adding a lot of food (relatively) to the tank and they will miss some and that will inturn feed the hermits wich will actually keep your tank cleaner.
You don't have to add them all at once either. You can build up to those levels as needed. Right now I have one scarlet in my 0.75g tank and I'll be adding a blue leg on Wed. Play around w/ it, what's right for one person may not be right for another.

Aren't astreas and turbos the same thing?

i believe you could get away with less (in my 12g, there's 3 blue leg hermits, and 2 turbo(?) snails, and they do an awsome job) but i originally had 5-6 hermits and then darwin came in and now i have 3, but i would start small then if more are needed/ wanted then get more (jmo) good luck

You definatley need a shrimp. I have a camel and love it, most people would recommend a peppermint shrimp. Shrimp really add that punch to what a tank needs. With only a 10 gal it is really hard to get that interesting look.
Get a shrimp

my 10 gallon clean-up crew:
3 scarlet hermits
2 blue leg hermits
2 astrea snails
2 cerith snails
3 nassarius snails
1 emerald crab
2 sexy shrimp
1 serpent starfish
one snail or crab per gallon, not including the nassarius, is a very general rule of thumb. good luck.

i would stay away from blue legs.. in my experience they're canibals..and murderes, killing each other and snails.. scarlets are much mroe docile and much better IMO and IME

diddley, how long have you had your serpent starfish? I have been told that I would not be able to keep any type of starfish in my 10 gal that it would starve to death due to the size of tank.
Any info about starfish would be very much appreciated :jumping:
Also the black spiny urchin, anyone keep these successfully in a 10 gal?

i've had him since the end of january. they are scavengers. i feed him shrimp pellets soaked in vita-chem or selcon. starfish are very sensitive to ph, temperature, and salinity fluctuations. hope this helps.
