Do you have inverts in the tank? If not I would just use the display tank as the QT tank.. Its much less stressful for your fish to keep them in the display.
I only mention this becuase I know you have a fairly new setup.

I just got everything for my 10 gal QT. I need to paint the outside bottom of the tank black.... corrtect? Then im going to take 5 gal out of my show and add 5 gal that i mix. How long will i have to wait for it to cycle before adding all the fish??

I have also decided to go with the copper treatment because i dont a refractometer.
Will copper do the job??

I do not see a happy ending to puting all those fish in an uncycled 10 gal tank and treating them with copper.

Yes, copper is a good treatment for ich....but hypo would be better, especially since you are dealing with an uncycled tank. Can you move your inverts and LR to a rubbermaid and do hypo in the main tank? You can use a good quality glass hydromter for hyposalinity.

I dont add the copper to my QT tank until the fish are already in there ... correct?

Eels don't fare well with copper. However, there is a chance it can get ich, though not as great a chance.
Get a glass hydrometer and do the hyposalinity.

I have the QT tank all ready to go and the ich is already at the stage where it can collect on the glass and rocks. I can even see it moving around on the glass at times. so i dont think i have time to order one from this site do i????????

You can't see ich moving. It is not visible by the

[hr]
eye. Go ahead and start lowering the salinity. You can use a GLASS hydrometer. Then place the order for the refract. When it gets in, test it against the reading in your QT using the glass hydrometer and hopefully they will match up. If not, ajust the salinity and start the count-down for the treatment. The point is, you can use the glass hydrometer to BEGIN the procedure.
Take a look at the writeup on ich in the FAQ Thread.

i guarantee your salinity will be off once you measure with refractometer, they are very useful GET ONE!!! makes life and hypo easier
