Im a beginner with a 10 gallon tank, and was wondering if I should get a bigger tank if I wanted to get a couple of clownfishes.
And if I need a bigger tank, does anyone know where I can get a good deal?

I would recommend the 20 gallon long as a minimum tank for a saltwater beginner. The bigger the better.

I have seen salt tanks that small in someone's office. Usually with a couple of shrimp, and some firefish, I agree with the previous post. Go with a 20 or larger. a 55 is a great choice if you can swing it.

I've heard of people having 10g saltwater tanks. It just takes more time and effort in keeping the water quality right. I would get a larger tank and use the 10g as a sump or something. But good luck, which ever way you go.

you can find used in most local papers (well atleast the ones down here) people trying to sell a 55 gal with stand lights and atleast some kind of filter for around 50 bucks.
Bigger is better. the larger you tank is the harder it is to throw into disarray.

you can use the 10 but like others said it is alot of maintenance. i started with a 10g too and when i got a bigger tank i found out it bigger was easier to keep. the bigger is better but if you are willing to make time and effort you can keep a small tank. i think for a beginner a 55g is the best. look in the paper for a used one. good luck

I agree with what all these people have said, I too started with a 10 gallon and soon after upgraded to 29 gallon only because I didn’t have enough room for a bigger on. Look in the Classifieds section of the newspaper once saw a 200 gallon w/ (3) 175w bulbs, sump, pumps and rock for $600, I should have gotten it…oh well. You should get at least 29, I promise you….whatever you get now, in 6 months you will want one twice the size.

thanks :D . Im shopping around looking for a 20-30 gallon. But if i cant find one, what should I be wary of in a 10 gallon tank?

Im setting up a ten gallon brackish water tank. The fish are a whole lot easier to take care of, and some are just as cool. The brackish water is still a salt water tank but it doesnt need as much salt in the mixture. The fish that were going to get is the figure eight puffer and the spotted puffer. This could be an option for you. If you really want a salt water tank you sould get a bigger tank. The first saltwater tank that I bought was $200 dollars. It was a 75 gallon acrylic with stand and canopy. Everything was included that you would need all the filters and everything. These deals are out there. Just look in your paper or look for ads at your local fish store(lfs). They may also know someone who is selling there used tank. Have fun with your new hobbie.

I have a 10 gallon reef tank. There arent any fish in there and I dont plan on putting any in there. They are difficult to keep the water quality in check because of the small size so be careful. A 20 gallon or bigger tank would be a much better option especially for a beginner.
