100gal Reef Build (Pics Inside)

So I got a 100gal (48x24x20) tank for free about 3 months ago. There was only one catch, the bottom had a crack in it. I ripped the black trim off of the bottom, and broke the rest of the glass in it, to put a new piece in. Well a friend of mine owns a glass shop, so I traded a few corals for a new piece of glass, and then called Perfecto and got a new trim for the bottom. They are only a half hour away from me, so I just went and picked it up. My dad and I have built the stand and canopy from scratch, and I think it has turned out pretty nice. Also I used "Great Stuff" insulation foam for the back, with Tropic Eden Reef Flakes for the back. Now to the Specs.

I think I will like it. At first I wasnt sure, but I think once it colors up it should like good. The Tank of the month on "that other reef site" has it, and that made me feel a lot better about doing it.

I've seen it as a fish tank "background" that is sold in any of the large pet shops.
Brandan, your tank looks awesome!!! I'm wanting to redo my aquascaping and I'm thinking of using some of that "Great Stuff" to spray some pvc pipe that I might be using. I know once the coraline covers it you won't be able to tell.

Looks like you did a great job

I can't tell from the pic but I'd make the sides of the stand able to pop out. With the size of the sump almost the same dimenison as the stand you want to be able to get the sump out if need be. Believe me, I've rearranged the 55 sump I have many times and thank the fact that both ends open on my stand.

The bottom of the stand is just 18"x18" linoleum??? tile. I just glued it down with regular tile glue and trowel.
I think I am going to like the foam. Fishgal, I was inspired by the thread you started, I think I am going to have a very open reef, with just 2 or maybe 3 caves in the back. The cube tank shot you had looked awesome. Thanks for the nice words!! I am really excited to get this set up this weekend!

I hate to say it, but I did in fact build the stand around the sump. My dad really didn't understand what the big deal about my worrying building the stand. That is, until I told him the DT and sump had almost the same dimensions lol. My LFS had a dollar per gallon sale up to 75gals, so thats why I got the sump so large. This way also, I can use it if I upgrade in the coming years. I spent a good amount of time on the sump, so I'd like to make it work on a DT to at least 220, but I may go even bigger on my next tank, so we'll see. . . . Thank you!
