The only filtration I run is a 7 gallon refugium above the tank. I have quite a bit of circulation in the tank, with two Minijet 606s in the tank, and an Aquaclear 150 hanging on the back that contains a third Minijet that pumps into the refugium which then gravity feeds back into the tank. I also run carbon once a month for a few days. My readings have been great, with phosphates and nitrates never testing above zero. I do a one gallon water change weekly. The only additives I use are kalkwasser nightly to keep my calcium between 400 and 500 and my alkalinity around 3.0 meq/l. I vary the strength of the kalkwasser to keep my readings in check. I have a pic of the whole system with the refugium that I will post on Monday. I strongly recommend ahsupply.com for the retrofit kit, and I buy my bulbs from hellolights.com. With those 72 watts of light over the tank, I have successfully been keeping clams and sps. Good luck and just let me know if you have more questions. Nanos are neat ;)

It's a standard 10 gallon that's been set up since the summer. You were misinformed if someone said you would not be able to keep those. My frogspawn is thriving, growing into multiple heads over the past few months.

I drip kalkwasser and feed DT's phytoplankton. Everything else I replenish with a one gallon water change per week, and I get quite a bit of overflow from my refugium into the tank... Here is a pic of the refugium...

cool, i wish i had enough cash for a refuge, one more questions, should i shoot my phytoplex directly towards anything?

In a tank as small as a nano I don't think that's necessary. I just add mine near the powerhead and within seconds it spreads throughout the tank.
