112 Gallon Aquarium

wow, plasma lights seem really good!? 1 Bulb is equal to 400W of metal halide!? Im just going to guess that its really expensive though! lol
When you have LED's doing a DIY is much cheaper right? Can anyone link me to a thread that explains how to do this, or explain it to me as im confused by the concept. Do you just buy LED's at a general hardware store or do you need special aquarium LED's?

There's lots of good led builds out there just do a search for diy reef lights. Also check out rapidled and reefledlights websites. They sell kits with the stuff you need.
Plasma is coming along in it's technology but still in it's infancy. It's also still very expensive. I think leds will be around for a long time to come and still the way to go for alot of people. For those who need to light a huge area then plasma will probably be the future instead of running several hundred leds. Plasma still puts off alot of heat and to my knowledge you cant get different color temps. The light is so intense that it would dround out any suppliment lighting.

I could not agree more.
If you decide to go the DIY route with LED's, then post a thread in the lighting section and I am positive some knowledgeable, helpful people will come along and give some advice.

For sure. When I get home later I'll try and dig up some links for you to some good threads.
Gemmy...interesting thing on the plasma...I've seen some of the spectral graphs for the wavelengths that the plasma puts out and it's pretty impressive. It blows every other lighting away in terms of replicating actual sunlight. It will be interesting to see where it takes us in the future. I have to imagine that growth rates with these lights under the right conditions could be pretty amazing. Deffinately something worth keeping an eye on for those on the aquacultural side of things who are looking to grow alot of corals quickly.

Cool vidoe on the plasma light! Does anybody know how much approximatley it is for a bulb with a fixture? I most probably will do a DIY LED build this summer hopefully! It will be really cool :) Does anyone here have pictures of their DIY LED builds that they could post?
