no, i wasn't affected. i have a model #7051
there shouldn't be any of those left... it only affected 1,000 units and there were actually only 9 reported issues according to current usa. model #7050 issued in march '06, so just make sure you check on that. for the recall information you can go here...

if by some strange alignment of the moon and stars you still end up receiving one of those just call current and have them replace it or don't purchase that one. i'm sure by now all the retailers are well aware of this one. no big deal...
good job with the research, we need more reefers who will actually make informed decisions and the world needs more consumers who make informed purchases.

haha thanks
i found a 12g aquapod for 125 shipped. im assuming that is a pretty good deal?
ok im going to sound like a total noob when i ask this, but its been such a long time since i set up my last tank that i completely forgot what order i put my water, lr, and sand in. lol idk how i forgot but i did, so whats the order? lol

i put sand in first, then i put a dinner plate or bowl on the sand and pour the water onto that to try and stir up as little sand as possible. then i wait for it to clear up and place the rocks.
in the nanos you could also pour the water into the chambers to keep from stirring up sand.

I am probably purchasing a nano tomorrow (8-14 gal), and I was wondering if anyone had a good pistol:shrimp goby combo for them. Thanks, sorry for butting in on the thread.

Oh, sorry, and also, how is the stock lighting on the aquapods.
stock lighting is great, i feel the perfect setup for nanos. everything has great color and grows like crazy. just keep an eye on those bulbs, as i stated above the color temperature for those bulbs doesn't really change to the eye so replace them by date not by look.

you'll have to purchase your own heater. i'm running a visi-therm stealth 50W. it has an all black plastic shell, fully submersible and auto shuts off when out of water and then turns back on when in the water so you don't need to worry about just pulling it out and putting it next to the tank when doing maintenance. i just set it for 79, dropped it into chamber 3 and never thought about it again.
they're like $15 and great quality, i actually just bought two 100W for my 40G breeder project. if you have the cash to spend there are a few titanium heaters out there and seems to be the new trend, but they're more expensive. i don't own one, so i couldn't really tell you the benefits.

I don't know if this still matters ....didn't read the whole thread by w/ my 12g aquapod i upgraded pump to mj 900 for some extra flow. Had no cyano really with the higher flow. blocked the lower intakes w/ epoxy and part of the top to help surface skim better. Stock lighting is pretty good kept softies some lps and zoas but i still upgraded later to 70w halide. my cleanup crew is about 7-10 hermits and mostly nass and astrea snails probably about 15 total. I wouldn't keep more than two small fish if you are goin reef. Have about 15lbs lr. back chambers are filled w/ lr rubble also. 2nd chamber is a little fuge w/ chaeto. and thats pretty much it besides weekly waterchanges of 10-20%.
Some pics:
you can see the epoxy coverin vents. they get covered w/ coraline eventually

how ofen should i replace the pc bulbs in my aquapod??
about every 6-8 months. i date the bulbs when i put them in so I can always check if i cant remember. you'll also start to see a little more algae growing on the glass when they're shifting spectrum.
bs21: your tank looks amazing! did you also shorten the loc-line on those returns? the return moving across the back looks way shorter than mine. i may do that since its pretty much just blowing at the glass on the left side of the tank and skipping over everything in between.

Thanks! yea i shortened both of them. I think i get more even flow throughout the tank and it helps keep particles suspended. before that back corner had little to no water movement and a ton of crud accumulated there.
also another thing i just remembered is that i had heat issues at first but i cut off some of the vents on top to get better air movement out of the hood and things stabled off. also others just added a second fan

I just got got my order in the mail from the "doctors" with my Azoo cooling fans (2 fan fixture). It's been running for 2 days now and has stabilized my tank temp from 86 to 79. They are relatively quiet and very easy to mount. So far so good...

did you put these on a nano? can you post a picture of how you mounted them?

mkzimms: have you experienced any trouble with your LED fixture? Mine turns from weak to strong a lot without me touching it and I was wondering what can I do about that?

it'd be worth a try if they priority shipped them so that we wouldn't have to go long with out lighting. i might look into that
