so im about to buy a new h20 softener, for an extra 1200 i can get an ro filter. it sounds like alot, but it has a 7 year warranty on the filter. i think the unit makes 180 gpd. is this a good deal?

That's insanely expensive for your aquarium. You can get an RO/DI filter for less than $200.
Unless you just want RO for your house there is no reason to buy that.

ro/di is great for tanks
ro/ is good for house
di/ is bad for drinking
but honestly you could get a ro filter for under your sink for waaaay cheaper.... unless you find it essential to wash your clothes and water your lawn with a 1200$ ro filter

wow, I am happy that I am not the only one who thinks that price is insane. My LFS sells RO/DI machines for $200.

why the heck would you want that big of an ro unit for your aquarium????!!!
1200 is still high for a 180 gpd unit too... I could get a 600g/day custom built system for that much money.

Think of how much waste water that thing would create. The bigger gph the membrane, usually the more waste, and if you made 180g in a day, you'd probably waste like 720 gallons of water in the process.

it would also be for drinking water. the reason im thinking about getting it is the filters have a 7 year warranty. they replace them at no cost.

first of all ......... seriously.......... have your water tested .......... this will give you an idea of how often the filters will be changed...... also how much "clean" water you will be using a day.
1200 is insane .... if you have a rating of 1200 tds (total disolved solids) in the water you might ,might have to change your filters once ever 6months. Ive had my 180gpd rodi for 8 months with 196 tds going in and 0.0 going out
your getting ripped off... you could have almost anyone custom install a faucet with storage tank for half that..

the company is kinetico. i also got my new tank today. i think its a 40 breeder, i will be turning into my new reef. anyone use that size. it seems really short. im sure it will work out.ill find out more on the filter and let you know. he tested my water and said i would have to change an ro filter every month with my water quality. so i figured i would save money in the long run.

Ok what I would do is check my water consumption by the month divide that per day 180g a day is a hell of a lot of water I think you can spend the money wisely some where else if not send it to me

My TDS on my tap water is around 500. I use the Typhoon III RO/DI 100gpd and make about 120 gallons a month. I have to change my filters about every 6 months.
So I agree with Coach. I can't imagine changing just RO once a month.
