I just ordered a 125 tank thats not reef ready. Im planning a FOWLR mainly predator tank. What wquipment would you put on it? Skimmer? Filter? Im thinking dual 36 inch PC's and maybe later a overflow box to an old 55 I have as a sump. I may do a coralife 220gallon super skimmer. I love mine in the sump. I was also thinking dual emporeo 400's. Anyone wanna chime in?

I miss my 125...just relocated to Florida
Are you thinking like Triggers, Groupers, Lion Fish and such?
Mine had a 6" Miniatis Grouper, 6" Clown Trigger, 10" Queen trigger and 2 6" Lions...I placed the live rock in two seperate atolls...looked awesome.
Keep us up.
Where did you get the tank from...I have been looking at *****...good prices for the tank...you can go online and build it...with or w/o overflows and such!

congrats on the new tank! honestly, if you think you'll be adding a sump in the future, you might as well do it now to save the headache later on. depending on your stand, many of them have wide center braces that make it hard to put a sump through the doors. you'll have to drop it in through the top of the stand before putting the tank on. since your tank isnt reef ready, have you considered the alternative to an overflow box: drilling the tank? i dont have much experience w/ different types of skimmers, but i'll be adding an asm g-3 to my 125 in a week or so. i've heard great things about them.

asm makes great skimmers for a great price. I have the asm gx1 on my 75. I will be lookinf forward to this build. Give me some ideas on my 180 in the near future

I will probally use my cracked 55 tank as a sump afterall. I think everyone is right and it will do nothing but save a headache. I will probally use an overflow box with U tubes and a Mag 9.5 return, dual emporer 400's and a coralife 220 needlewheel superskimmer. I just cant get myself to drill my tank. I dont see the advantage over U tubes....i havent had a single problem with mine so far and its been a year. Yes im thinking lionfish eels and such

You want a bigger return pump. With gravity and depending on how long your piping is back to the tank it will slow it down more than you think. Id get a bigger better skimmer if you plan on going aggressive with a lion and eel.

A mag 9.5 is a 950 GPH pump....you dont think at just a few feet that will be enough flow? The overflow box im looking at is a 900gph maximum flow....figured that would be a good combo.
As far as a skimmer im looking at an ASM g3 now.

I have a 125 with a 75 sump. I use a Mag 9.5 for my return. I supplement flow with 2 Koralia 4's in the DT. I could use another small powerhead too, but the 9.5 is fine for sump to dt. Read up on your stocklist, you definitely do not want to mix certain predators together(like Lions and Triggers).
