Hey guys,
My 125 reef is coming along great! Enclosed are tons of pictures! ..On some of my rocks I’m noticing purple stuff ...is it coralline algae? Also what are these little red things on my rocks? I had small brown algae out break, but it’s coming down. Also my polyps are starting to really come out in my new tank, they look amazing! 
Please leave lots of thoughts and info.

Honestly my dealer wont tell me, but he's the only person i've ever seen with this rock, i know it comes from near south america.

I think those rocks are just large chunks of dead coral. Can you give us a description of your tank as far as filtration and age of the system?
The purple is corraline and the red things is also corraline I believe.

My LFS sells that rock and calls it Fiji, it goes for $12 lb there. But most of it is covered in coraline and very beautiful looking

its rock, its not dead coral, that was my first guess as well. The tank itself is a month old, the rock has been pre-cured by a private guy here for me, i got the rock for $8 per pound which i really got a good deal on.

Thanks for the kind words

Coraline can take a while or it could spread very fast mine covered the first set of rocks in month now I can put a rock in and its covered in a week all tank are not going to have same time frame. But anyway your tank it looking nice keep up the great work it will all come together. You can speed up the process if you scrap the coraline off the glass for that helps it seed and spread all over.

As far as I know... there is no given time for it. just keep you CA/alk stable and it will grow. if you want it grow faster... scrub it with a tooth brush. Don't scrub it off the rock but just enough for the spore to be released.

The little red guys are foraminifera, they will always stay little and are completely harmless. :)

IMO that's a freagin chunk of money for rock, i'm not sure how much u have but i won't lie, it does look good. I had to pay 6 dollars a pound for some of my rock, fortunately the other (majority) of the other stuff the LFS called it "bad rock". It just didn't have the bacteria growth the 6 dollars/lb stuff had, so he sold that to me for $2.99 a pound! :-D the most i could get was 16lbs of that, dangit!

There are photos where in between the zoanthids you see some foraminiferans. Can be pretty sharp when you handle it. The purple stuff is coralline and that is one heck of a patch of it
LR is generally old coral skeleton - as corals grow on top of old corals and build up a reef so as long as it has been underwater, its LR
