I have a 75 g fw on the 43rd floor in downtown Chicago. I am sure the 7th will be fine. I hope you have an elevator. lol

Look at this way...a 75 with water and rock may weigh around 600 or so pounds while a couch with 3 grown men could also weigh around 600 lbs. I've never heard of a couch falling through a floor.

You must have some skinny friends!! At my house, a couch with 3 grown men on it is probably closer to 800-900 lbs!

A 125 weighs a lot more than a 75. Did you read your lease to see if it is allowed? 125 times 8 and a third pounds per gallon plus the weight of the sand are rock and the tank and stsnd. Might want to make sure it is supported by the max number of floor beams and is level. Good luck, Lesley

ok thanks..I own the apartment, and in the rules and reg of the coop it doesnt say anything about no fish tanks. The guy who i bought it from had like a 30gal but alot smaller then 125. I dont want to ask the super about it cause i dont to bring attention to it cause they might say no because what if it breaks and 125gal of water goes all over the place. and yes i have an elevator. How do u suggest i move this thing. I was thinking of buying a new garbage can and putting some of the water in that along with the fish. Then getting another one for the sand rock and some more water. Then emptying the tank completely and basically doing a pretty large water change. Im gonna buy some of that water thats already"cycled". All pretty hardy fish...1 large vol lion, 1 brazilian dragon moray, and a pink tail trigger..Thanks alot

But on a serious note, I'd think that with a 7 story building it is probably steel, surely it would support a fishtank. The real question is, will your land lord let you do it?

Sure you can keep a 125 on the 7th floor, assuming the structure is sound. 7th, 50th, or 1st floor over a basement--whats the diff? And, seeing how you are on at least the 6th floor, you can keep tangs!

All joking aside, you should realy check with the building. Make sure the beams can support that kind of weight. My friend got a waterbed on the third floor and had to get rid of it because the floor started bowing. It depends on the structure of the building. Find out first.

most newer sructures have flexicore floors (cement reinforced panels) or wood/coragated steel with 2" of lightweight cement poured over it sitting ontop of steel girders or engineered wood trusses.Pretty dang solid. Are your floors wood or cement under your floor coverings?
