Am sure all of you will not believe this but: Two aquaintences that I know very well have two of the most incredible tanks with every kind of coral, hard, soft, stoney, and they have power compacts with no additional MH's. I beg to differ on the price of MH"s. They are much more expensive than any other system and for many cause major heating problems which of course you then need to purchase a very expensive chiller . I just ordered a power compact system which works very well for others who have great success. Cetainly hope I do. There are many more reasons for major successes other than just lighting, but it is a biggy! At the moment I am fighting phosphate and nitrate problems on other of these forums, so that hopefully will be taken care of as time passes as I undertake the necessary changes. A change in MH's when they burn out is another much larger expense than a bulbs for the compacts. Of course I don't know that MH"s can't be bought wholesale either. I will admit there is one very important thing I don't know, because several people have told me that MH last much longer than any other light. If that is so, then in the long run, it would be a better way to go than any other, if you want to have some of the more difficult anemones and such. Maybe they can. It really depends on your budget and what you can afford to maintain. If I had 600.00 dollars I probably still woould have gone with the compact because how do I know if when the MH burned out, I would have enough to cover the cost. Rather go with something I know I can afford any given time. Good luck!

Your fish list is partially incompatible with your reef. Both the Koran angel and puffer are not reef safe. The Koran will eventually grow to over 12". A juvenile Koran will be fine in that size tank for awhile, but forget adding any corals - he'll most likely nip at them. I have a Koran, and I had a small colony of zoos and shrooms on some LR as hitchhikers. They were soon gone as I watched my juvie Koran eat away at them over the course of a few days. Your puffer will most likely consume almost any invert - shrimp, crabs, snails, etc. possibly along with the coral. So you gotta pick one or the other - reef or non-reef. Diamond gobies require a sand bed to sift thru, so make sure it's at least 1.5" deep if you're not doing a DSB. Also, Bangaii's like to be in mated pairs rather than alone. When you go find one, see if you can buy a pair. They never really move much anyway - they hover and look cool doing it. :) And it's been said before, anemones require a mature tank and will have better odds with MH lighting. Yes it's been done with VHO, and been done successfully, but that doesn't mean it's the best equipment for the animal's needs. Good luck!! :happyfish :joy:

Benghai's also mate readily. While I had mine they mated many times and what was not consumed by the tankmates went down the flow pipes into the sump and thrived until 4-5 months where-by I sold them to the LFS or made trades for food and such. They are very cool fish. I sold them back however, when I was unable to keep peppermint shrimp. It seems they eat at night small peppermints. I am sure I will get flack for this but I haven't lost one since selling them back, but, I miss their uniqueness. Our LFS owner told me they had witnessed a shrimp being taken by one so then I realized where my shrimp were going. . I kept buying, and they kept disappearing. Not anymore. Badkharma, Yes, I agree halide lighting is certainly better for anemones. :)

BAD, MARY
The puffer will go and the koran I just liked the colors of them i can trade them in on something and replace them with more colorful fish that are reef safe :) I dont want a full blown reef at this point just the easy stuff for starter that looks pretty and in time get the anom. so what do you think about the lighting:confused:
