I got a new 135g tank up and running and am looking to add aggressive fish to it. I was looking at adding a puffer a lion and maybe some triggers. Any help or ideas would be great.

This is true in some cases but it's not an absolute. Lions can fall victim to triggers and puffers, which like to pick at the long showy fins. There are some that are better bets than others. In a 135, I'd think about a volitans lion, blue throat trigger (one of the most peaceful), a snowflake eel, harlequin tusk and maybe a large cinammon clown. Swap out the tusk for a dogface puffer but be aware of the risk to the lion. Hopefully you have some serious filtration planned. This combo of fish will be a waste machine.

if you want more than one trigger forget about the lion and go with 3 or 4 similar size niger triggers nigers are school fish and do well in groups. they're the next least aggressive besides the blue throat and they will ignore most larger fish like puffers or large groupers. i had an undulated with a niger and lion fish in the same tank not knowing that triggers hated lionfish, and they tore the lion in half while i slept. (poor guy)

the key to having a sucsessfull aggressive tank is making sure all fish are well fed. also have lots of caves and hiding places.

Its not really all that big of a tank for an agressive. Dogface volitan and most triggers will all outgrow that tank. I am assuming it is about 6 feet by 18 inches? I think the only difference between the 120 and the 135 is that the 120 is shorter in which case the height makes no difference to agressive fish. I would probably recommend that you go with something like a small eel and grouper. Maybe even a hamlet. Even smaller lions would be fine. You can get small volitan lions but agressive fish tend to grow quite quickly. As for the triggers and puffers, the case is the same. There are plenty that you can put in your tank but most of them will outgrow it within a few years.

triggers grow pretty slow i've had an undulated for 2 years now and hes only 3 1/2" and he was almost 2 inches when i got him. the fastest growing triggers probably grow about an inch and a half a year at the most

They grow depending on what you feed and how often. if you under feed they will grow slow. They can grow much faster than 1.5 " a year

mine is always well fed i have to feed him twice a day so he doesnt pick at my pencil urchin. hes been well fed and taken care of for 2 years or so now, he has never had diease or parasites and has only grown 2 inches at the most. if triggers grow more than an 1.5" a year its only in the wild

I have to go with Undulated on this one. Triggers generally do not grow more than 1.5" per year in an aquarium. I think some people on this board exaggerate how fast fish grow to dissuade people from getting them. JMO.

harlequin tusks aren't aggressive...
and realize that your banded shark will outgrow that tank rather quickly...
they shouldn't be in anything less than a 275 IMHO..and even then i feel that they outgrow those fairly quickly

You bought all those at once? Don't triggers pick on sharks? I was thinking they like them for their cartilege(sp?). Either way, the Undulate will likely go ballistic and kill them all. Seriously.

sietedos is right the undulated will kill everything sooner or later. i've had one for 2 years now he has kill a picasso, a crab that i pulled out of the sea of cortez in mexico, and 15 snails, the only thing in there with him is a pencil urchin. the only reason the urchin is alive is because i feed the trigger twice a day

That tank is a disaster waiting to happen. The puffer and trigger are going to pick at the shark until it is dead. Also undy triggers are one of the most aggressive fish ever and will probably wipe out your whole entire tank. So what I would do is get rid of the trigger and shark then it would be a lot calmer and compatible.

Just wanted to give everyone an update. All fish have gotten along great so far. It's only been 2 weeks but they all keep to there own part of the tank. Hopefully this continues. Today I added 2 more fish.
Added a stars and stripe puffer and a pink tail Trigger.
Would adding a Koran or Emperor Angel be a problem?
Your help would be appreciated.
Pics to come.
