$140 shipped to spend...WHat PROTEIN SKIMMER?

how come so many people bash on the seaclone? would the seaclone 100 be fine in my 55 gallon? or should I move up to the seaclone 150? Also is the CPR Bak Pak 2 any good?

you get what you pay for, spend the extra buck and you'll be thankful in the long run, just my opinion, i've got a berlin in sump and i started with a seaclone 100, the difference is amazing.

Because their junk......How many people have you heard of that have used a good skimmer like a Euro reef or PM, dumped it and go to a Seaclone? I'm sure people who use these skimmers think their just peachy. The problem is they have never used a good skimmer so there's nothing to compare.

Some of us can't afford or don't want to spend tons on a sump and pump and then a ton more on a skimmer. Especially since a seaclone works just fine for a smaller aquarium. Heck, I run a seaclone 150 on my 125 gallon reef and my reef is one of the nicer ones around. my skimmer is the only external filtration I have. There is no doubt that seaclone is not the best or even close to the best skimmer but they definately are not junk and definately don't cost anywhere near what it would cost to get a Euroreef going since you would need a sump to use a euroreef.
Their are all kinds of people with high end skimmers that have horrible looking tanks with terrible water conditions.

After owning both a seaclone and a euroreef, based on the amount they both skim if you don't want to spend the money to by a euroreef or other quality skimmer, I wouldn't buy a skimmer. The seaclone skimmed so little I don't think its worth what they cost. Be better off putting the money in the bank until you have enough for a quality skimmer.
I too thought I could go the cheaper way, but the difference in skimmate is not even close.
By a used euroreef or equivalent.

You're see used Aqua C Remora's (which is a hang on skimmer like the sea clone)for around that price with shipping if you look around on the various sw boards. I highly suggest that.

Absolutely correct. Remember though, their are also people with amazing tanks that they don't even have a skimmer on, it is becoming rarer though. If your sea clone is working for you, than by all means keep it. Though for just a little more in savings, someone could pick up a skimmer that is incredibly more effective.

I second a used Remora. My tank had a Euro Reef CS6-1 on it until the pump died recently, and I now have a Remora that I had lying around temporarily hanging on the tank in it's place until I can replace the ER pump. The amount and quality of skimmate pulled out by the Remora is almost on par with what the ER was pulling out.
If you like buying new products and don't mind stretching your budget a little, you could get one brand new for less than $170 shipped.

yeah, sorry, i didn't even think of that. i'm running an aqua C remora on my 20 gallon and i like it better than the seaclone 100 i had as well. a friend of mine is running it on his tank, and it works, but i would bet that i empty my collection cup more often than he does with each of us having roughly the same bioload. check out mar..... dep.... that's where i got mine. :D

I couldn't agree more, but there are tons more people who use junk skimmers like Seaclones with worse looking tanks. I'd be willing to bet you could take your skimmer and use it as a door stop and see no difference in your tank.
Nobody said the hobbie was cheap. People would be better off saving and buying good equipment and stop wasting money on junk.

or a bong :hilarious
hell, if your looking for a cheap skimmer you could build your own "counter current" skimmer out of pvc. it would probably cost you around 20 bucks plus a air pump and water pump. i friend of mine builds them and i have to say even though they are quite large they pull a lot of crap out of the tank.

CPR's are good skimmers. easy to adjust and maintain. Do a google search and check different sites cause prices and shipping vary. :cheer: :cheer: WOO-HOO 600th:cheer: :cheer:
