when i started out i had Xenia, and some mushrooms in mine with very little light they survived BUT..... they looked like starving children in Africa so i gave in and spent $1500.00 on some real lights and i cant imagine not having them now.

They looked bad? i know a really nice light will make them look better but mine are pretty bright and i have another just in case but i dunno about a whole new light setup.

Yes xenia is a soft coral. the xenia got really long and skinny (reaching for the light) and never grew it barely ever pulsated. I had two 48 inch t12s (the ones you get from LPS, punny wattage) on a 125 gal tank.
But who knows mabey with some sweet bulbs you can get them to look good.
and when i say look good i mean look healthy and happy

try some sun coral they actually like to be in the shade or some leather finger corals, tube aneomes, green star polup or a red polup octoral these are are all lowlight corals
but if i were you i would really consider you get some good lighting becuase the thing is with coral is there suppose to sit there and look pretty but if there under crappy lighting they can't do it

I agree, i had my big leather finger coral with limited light and it seemed to do very well, and
they act as a calcium gage in your tank, when there not happy check your calcium.
