150 Fowlr Stock list

Hey all, I have been reading these forums for a while now and have learned a lot which I appreciate. I am in the process of slowly adding to my 150g fowlr and I hoped to get some feedback on my stock list. Here is what I am thinking:
1 dogface puffer (currently in tank)
1 clown trigger
1 picasso trigger
1 volitan lion
1 yellow tang
Any ideas? Thanks
By the way i am new to to the saltwater hobby, had freshwater for a few years. AS far as filtration goes I have 150 pounds live rock, 140 pounds live sand and an ASM skimmer. Thanks for all the help.

I think everyone here will tell you that a clown trigger is dangerous to be put in with any other fish. Also lions should not be put in with triggers, especially ones as agressive as the clown. The lion will end up dead. They are not fast enough and triggers will pick at their fins until they die.
If it was me, I would rearrange that list like this:
dogface puffer
picasso trigger
niger trigger (or any other beside the really agressive specimen only types)
yellow tang
You can add some more fish to this list. An angel would fit in, a wrasse like a harlequin tusk, another tang. You have lots to choose from.

Good advice. IMO, NEVER keep lions with most triggers or large puffers.

I agree, some clown triggers are very aggressive, but each fish has its own personality. if you have the option to buy at an lfs and see how these animals act youd be better off. I only say this because i have a niger that is WAY more agressive than my clown. Also, they really do change as they grow.

Wow I am glad I posted here. A guy that works at my lfs gave me the the okay on that list. Thank you for all the advice. If I really wanted to add the lion what triggers would work? Would a picasso be too aggressive? Thanks

A picasso is mid scale agressive, so I don't think it'd work. Maybe a sargassum would work.

Lol of course they did. If your fish die then you just need to spend more $$$. People at fish stores aren't as knowledgeable as one might think and many aren't really looking out for you
or your fish
best interests.

Yes, very true unfortunately. Even if they are knowledgable, they still want to make money and they don't make money if you buy fish that live a long time.

Alright I appreciate all of the input so far. I put together another "wish" list so to speak and wanted to see what you guys thought would be the best combination.
1 dogface puffer
1 yellow tang
1 panther grouper (dont know much about this one)
1 harlequin tusk
1 picasso trigger
1 clown trigger
1 regal angel
That could be to large of a stock list which is why I wanted to run it by all of you. I know I have heard most of the time clowns do not work out with other fish but when I talked to the guy at another lfs close to me (not the one I talked to before) he told me if any of the fish were not compatible I could take them back and exchange them for something else. SO what do you guys think of this list? As far as wanting a lion I guess I will have to get another tank eventually. Thanks!

I dont know much about groupers and I would take the clown trigger off that list. The rest would probably be fine. The clown might be fine at first so you won't notice the problem until one day he snaps and starts terrorizing everything in your tank. Its just a bad risk and not a fish that should be kept to adulthood in a community.

Same here. I'd take off the clown trigger because of agression and I'd take off the grouper because they're really messy fish, and might put a heavy load on your filtration. How about replacing those two with a niger trigger and maybe another tang or a large wrasse?

Oh one other thing too. Regal Angelfish are notoriously difficult to keep. For expert fish owners only.

Good list IMO, minus the Regal Angel and Panther Grouper as well. The Panther grouper will get far too large, they reach 2 and a half feet in length!! A much better alternative, is a 'hind' (for all intensive purposes, a grouper). If you click 'Fish' on the very top left of this site, then scroll down to groupers, then pick any of them, those with "Cephalopholis
under their names are 'hinds.' (like the BlueLine, the Blue Spotted, the Miniatus, the V-tail, etc). They only reach 10" - 13" max length. I don't feel that groupers/hinds are any more 'messing' then other aggressive fish, as they all eat the same foods you put into the tank.
The Regal Angel is definitely an expert only fish. They don't take to prepared foods very well, and have to be trained over months time. Sadly, it's a fact that most Regals die in the industry.
I also am one of those that would steer away from a Clown Trigger. It's great that the store will take the fish back, but if the Clown Trigger decides he didn't want another fish in his tank, it often times will be too late, and the Clown would have killed the other fish.

Thanks guys. Yeah after I posted that list I did some more reading and saw that the grouper could get to be 26 inches long and I read that the regals are very difficult. So do you think an emperor would fit in with everyone else? Thanks

The Emperor definitely could fit for a while, pending you get a small'ish juvi, but ultimately will eventually need a larger tank, something at least in the 200 gallon range for a 'permanent home.'

I think an Emperor will be fine for many years in a 150. You could keep it a good 3 to 4 years before it gets too big for the tank. Of course this assuming you get a small juvi.

I can not speak for angels.
But as far as the clown trigger .... You really need to take it off your list . They are notorious for being team players for a while then going postal and killing an intire tank full of fish ....
The panther grouper is great when its a little fish ... They are small and cute . But that cute little white fish with the pretty spots turns into a big ugly greyish brown fish with ugly black/brown spots .

Thanks everybody! So this is what we have so far
Dogface (in tank)
Yellow tang
Picasso trigger
Harlequin tusk
Emperor angel
Would it be pushing it to add maybe one more trigger like a niger or blueline or maybe a foxface? Also what do you guys think about the order I should get them in? Thanks again for all of the help
