150 watts enough?

I was thinking about getting the VHO DIY kit and having 150 watts of light over my 40 gallon breeder. I was wondering if this is enough light for low light corals like mushrooms? If it is then what other kinds of corals can I keep under this light? The tank is 16" tall.
I am also thinking about upgrading to MH in the future when I make some more money. If I do upgrade then should I keep the one daylight/one actinic VHO bulb or switch it to two actinic bulbs and have the MH?
One more quick question, are the VHO bulbs the same diameter as NO bulbs?

I believe that would work for mushrooms. The NO and VHO bulbs are normally T-12 size or about one inch around or so.
If you upgrade to MH then keep the actinic blues.
