Any particular reason you want to build a wood tank for a size that is readily available? If its just for money reasons, I think you would be much happier in the long run just getting a glass tank.

cincyreefer - why do you feel firedad720 would be happier with an all glass tank? I only ask because I'm planning a wooden tank with a starfire glass front, and would like to hear wood tank owner's feedback.
Thanks.
BTW, firedad720, I got this from another site which has plans for building wooden tanks...

[hr]
sherwin williams brand "Epoxide HS Tank Lining"

[hr]
rustoleum brand "9200" system epoxy with color choices one of which is "9271" dunes tan

I don't know prices - yet.

Well I guess a big part depends on how you use the tank as well. If it is in a wall then it won't be that big of a deal, but if it is free standing, every one I have seen is ugly IMO. Also, the time and expenses of building one, the longevitity and reliabitlity, and the fact that the one we have is a pain to scrape algae on. If you are going for a real large tank that had to be custom made (or any custom made size) then I can see doing it for cost reasons, but a glass 180 gallon tank itself is not really that expensive. Those are the main reasons IMO, as well as the resale is much better on a glass tank if you ever have to get rid of it.

the supplies (paint, high grade plywood, ect.) except for the glass, in this area will run approx. 150 to 200 dollars depending on how much paint will be needed. only thing left will be the glass. witch will run arround 100 dollars. way below a glass tank cost
thanks rick
