Hey everyone,
I wont be setting up my tank for a while but wanted to get some suggestions as to what type of lighting I should get for a 180g reef (tank is 25h x 24d x 72.5w)?
I know there are plenty of options with MH or T5, and Id assume that's the way I should go but I dont know how many bulbs I would need or if I should get white and blue, accintic, etc...
Any recommendations would be appreciated. ***)

General rule of thumb is a MH will cover a 2x2 area, but if using something like a Lumenarc reflector they cover a 3x3 area.HTH

this is what i have and love it!!!
Current USA 72in Outer Orbit 3x250w 10K HQI-MH w/ 8x39W Actinic T5 HO & 24 Lunar Lights
The new 250w models come w/remote ballasts so you dont have the heating issues that the 150w version had (150w version had ballasts in the fixture)
Again I love mine and think you would be very happy with it.
Do yourself a favor and just buy it once, instaed od gettings power compacts only to want halides in 6 months!

that is prob it but you can get it cheaper on the big aucti0n site, just do a search for 72" outer orbit and you will see them for 1099.99
I paid like 1175 shipped to my door
edit:forgot to mention you can not compare odyssea to current usa (outer orbit), thats like compairing a lexus to a dodge neon!
I have read alot of bad posts about odyssea lighting and would stay away from them if it was me!

cgrant...I understand what u r saying, but that was the older versions of the lights. I also read not long ago on here of a current light catching fire.
I am going off of personal use, not someone elses opinion, and maybe I am out of line, but I kinda take it personal when you say my lights are like a dodge neon and yours are lexus. Just because you pay more for something, doesn't always make it better. Also wanted to know if you are aware that jebo/odyssea is now making current and coralife lights.
On the other big reef forum not long ago there was a thread where a guy took a brand new odyssea apart and tested it. It has the exact same parts as a coralife...

i have had no problems at all with mine and have several freinds who also have them. The older versions were not made very well I think and got them a bad rep.

Links are not allowed. just go to the place where you bid on items.
