Being one physical exam short of flying F-14 in the U.S. Navy and having a love of military aircraft from an early age, I know everyone of those aircraft.
In reference to the T-38 vs the F-5, I believe the T-38 was a two seater while the F-5 was a single. (Trainer vs Fighter)
Interesting perspectives and thanks 1journeyman for replying. I'm out on a limb with this one. I have worked with some people from Boeing and I could just see them thinking this was a done deal and going for every dollar they could get but like you, I hate to see it. It's nothing that hasn't been going on for the last 10 years with all the off shoring and out sourcing in the private sector. It will be interesting to see how this shakes out if anything at all comes of it.
With the dollar being so weak, I'm actually thinking of starting to trade currency. Not too sure yet, but seriously considering it.
Yeah, I really put it in there because you've heard of an F-5 but that is dated, the T-38 is still currently used as a trainer. And I think NASA astronauts use them to commute from Houston to El Paso when they train on the KC-136. And to florida.

Yes it is. I remember watching the A-7 Corsair II, A-4 Skyhawks and the occasional F-4 Phantom flying around my home when I was a kid. Saw an F-8 crusaider a few times also. Now I see the S3A vikings (hoovers as we call them from the sound they make) and F-18 Hornets. We have a few F-15s that the Air National Guard fly and every now and then an F-16 comes up from Homestead.

I always said as a kid the airplane I wanted f-4 corsair. Someone help me figure out how to be as rich as Bill Gates so I can become a vintage airplane Mechanic and restore WWII aircraft. I used to live in fort worth when they still have Carswell AFB that was soo cool. We saw everything. f-14's 15 18, c130s. Lockhead martin was also based there so we saw alot of prototype ospreys testing. We saw all the KC aircraft. And when my dad worked in elpaso we would see the shuttle being piggybacked back to houston. So I was kind of hooked. I had some distant family that was part of the confederate airforce museum. So we got to go behind the scenes at their airshow in Midland, and toured b-25, b-17, and b29's oh those were fun days.

Now, the T-37 Tweet, now there was a plane.
I have an hour in this T-28:

Me with the A-7

F-4 on Maverick's 6

My flying lid:

Perfect day for flying!

Me leading a missing man formation at a veterans' rally

I would love a Corsair!
Knew a guy that owned and flew one. My dad and I almost bought a TBM Avenger 25 years ago, and I wish we had, even for an investment.
Anyone wanting to talk airplanes, I'm in!

yeah, the F4U-1 was an awesome fighter. I remember Pappy Boyington making that plane famous. If I remember right, the Navy didn't like it and passed it the marines who made it one of the most successful fighters in the Pacific. My personal favorite was the P-51 Mustang in Europe. My great uncle was a tail gunner in a B-17 that did all his missions to get to come home and used to tell me about the P-51 escorts.
Michael Dorn (Wharf on Star Trek TNG) owns and flies an F-86 Sabre. Now that would be sweet!

On american Idol some total scifi nerd made a reference to an M class planet and I knew what she was talking about. This isn't good.
There is this flight museum based at a local airport in fort worth that was restoring a B-17. We went one day when it was about 30 degrees and no one was there at all. But the owner was working on the plane. So she gave us a personal tour, we got to crawl into all the gun turrets that she had restored and everything it was soo cool.
Another plane I would love to have is the p-47 thunderbolt! Can you imagine a being strapped behind a 2000 hp Pratt Whitney 18 cylinder double radial engine!
BTW did anyone here watch Dogfights on the history channel? That as a cool airplane show.
