I purchased my 1st coral 6 days ago, an amber colored star polyp, that has not opned except for two or three tiny polyps. The tank is fully cycled and the water tests fine. I only have a LM Blenny, Arrow crab and snails in at this time all are doing great, tank is 8 weeks since setup. The lighting is four 48" NO URI's. (working on a new lighting setup). Any hope for this coral?

I'm not exactly sure what you have but, with star polyps sometimes they can take a week or longer to fully adjust to your tank and open up. What kind of lighting upgrade are you going to do? Where do you have them placed in the tank?

I am in the process of building my canopie. it will have 2 250 watt MH and 2 VHO's with some type of moon light. I have lots of cabinet building experience, but I need some help in picking out the correct bulb types.

With MH alot depends on your ballast. If you could let us know what ballast we could better help to give you some options.

I have not purchased any Ballast yet, plan to in two weeks. I would like this to be a good setup, likely electronic ballast for both the MH and VHO's. I plan to spend in the $800-900 range.

I dont much experience with MH, but Im sure others will chime in.
If you go a route to use VHO for actnics I recommend IceCap 660 and URI bulbs. IceCap is more expensive but IMO are worth the extra money. They run super cool.
