It was not to bad as far as cost, shown below. It mainly just took a long time because of time constraints where I built it.
1 1/2" Steel Tubing: $75.00
Cabinet Grade Plywood: $35.00
Earth Magnets (16): $2.95 ea = $47.20
Odds & Ends: $25.00
Blood, sweat, and tears: Priceless
TOTAL: $182.20

It's not too bad, about 100 lbs. The room it is in is on a slab of concrete, so I am not worried about that. I can move it by myself (with some difficulty do to the shape mainly). It's all hollow steel tubing with 1/8" walls so it has a lot of stability with less weight.

Ben:
what are the dimensions of that stand? You are really tempting me, I saw a similar type of stand at a going-out-of-business sale at a semi-local LFS for $100 in the size I need (60x18). I passed because I really wanted wood. But with your magnets and wood panels, I might have to look again, it seems like the best of both worlds.

Wow you really went on the safe side of construction. :scared: I used the same size steel bars on my 300. I wished I would have thought of the magnets my top and bottom are bolted to the steel and the sides are screwed into the top and bottom.

Very cool, I have also used square tubing in my stand, only 1" though, I was also thinking of magnets but could find strong enough ones that were small. Where did you get your mags? Again great idea!

I bought my magnets from Bunting Magnetics, Phone # 847-593-2060. I used the Ceramic Value Magnet # BRB50. They will ship anywhere. There is a $50.00 minimum order.
The stand is L 52 X W 15 X H X 36". I have a 55 gal and gave myself about an inch on each side for more stability. I also used 3" X 3" feet in seven places on the base for more stability. It sits on carpet, so the feet sink into it and become flush. All the extra stability for any shenanegins that go on near the tank.

A little welldone overkill is always nice for kids and such. And being so well built out of metal only the pannels are likely to take damage.
