2 400 mh over 75g ?

2 400 mh over 75g ?
Does anyone think this will be too much light?
Does anyone run this much over there 75g ?
I am getting ready to buy halides and there isn't much price difference between the 250 and 400, my only concern would be heat issues. In addition to the 250 or 400's I am also running 4 65 Ultra Actinic bulbs.
So if I go with the 400's we are looking about 14+ wpg or with the 250's about 10 wpg
Any suggestions on which I should go with ?
Does anyone think two 4"fans blowing in will have enough cooling effect in my 12" inch high Canopy?
any help would be awesome

I have 2 250w MH's in my 75 canopy that is about the same size as yours and my tank runs at 79 without MH's on and when the MH's run I have 4 4" 50CFM fans that go on with the Mh's and my tank actually runs cooler than without the MH's on due to the fan circulation, have you considered DE 250's instead of 400, they're suppose to be as bright as 400's but produce less heat and consume less electricity

I am not familiar with DE 250's where could i find some more information on those?
with your 250 setup do you have any clams?
Down the road or when the bank account fills back up I think I would be interested in keeping clams and would not want to upgrade my lights again.

Ray I too would strongly recommend the DE 250s, as I have them on my 65 gallon sps tank with four different species of tridacna clams on the sandbed. The 65 is even deeper than your 75 at 24". I'd strongly recommend a 10k bulb with the PCs all actinic. Check my tank out here for more info...

And I use no chiller, but have an adjoining frag tank that runs overnight... with strategically placed fans you should have no problems, but if you go to 400s you will have much more of a chance of needing a chiller...
The DE 250s 10ks definately bake... I have a 20k on a seperate tank that adds nice unsupplemented color, but is not nearly as strong...

Does your Red Sea Regal Angel eat your corals? They are beautiful fish but I didnt think they were reef safe?

For all angels (except those in the genus Genicanthus) it's a calculated risk adding to reef tanks, and in an sps tank many of the large angels are usually safe (majestic, regal, emperor, chrysurus, asfur for example). Regals love zoanthids, and all but a few I couldn't get went to the corner tank before I got him. Within hours he had picked clean every zoanthid, but has left alone my sps, ricordia, clams, and fungia...

Kc fish It good to see another Ks/MO person in the forums. If your ever looking for some other places to shop try Lawrence. Not a great selection but getting better.

and Fish Kc There is a pretty local place that I do most of my business called Jayhawk Tropical fish. The staff is very nice but they have recently hired some young people that lets just say
"haven't learned the ropes yet." But the owner is an awesome guy and will go out of his way to order anything you desire. Its located on right off of 9th Street.
Or there is a pet store that has doubled its tank collection in the last several months called Pet World on 23rd Street but in my opinion is outrageously overpriced compared to this website. The staff is very knowledgeable but very snotty in there approach in selling there collection. For that exact reason I do not shop there. But has a great selection for the middle of Kansas.
But then again that is just my opinion

Have you checked out the Reef House in KC, Mo on Main Street, if not you should one of my favorite shops. Or better yet Mission Pet Mart in Mission, Kansas is great.
As of tonight I finished building my canopy all it needs is a little paint and the lights installed and my summer project is in the bag.

I know this is about 3 weeks late, but thought I'd throw my .02 in. I travel to Pet World on occasion (they're pretty large scale herp breeders, my first love) and I can see where you'd get that impression. They can kinda be

. Prices were pretty surprising, too. I swear the last time I was in there, I saw fiji LR for like 10.99/lb.
If you're ever around KC, Blue Ridge Pets is a great place to go. It's ran by two brothers (both of whom used to work at Pet World). Greatest guys in the world, and as good of prices as you could expect from a non-online retailer.
