I had a chalk and added a dottyback yrs ago. It didn't work out. Even though i had the chalk first, the dottyback took over his territory and forced the chalk to stay in hiding most of the time. So no, I wouldn't do it, found out myself doyybacks and bassletts don't get along. Either does bassletts and baseletts or dottybacks and dottybacks. Perhaps in a larger tank, mine was a 75.

I guess I got lucky. I had one chalk basslet and before I was educated in this hobby bought another. The acclimation process was ugly at best. The dominant basslet almost ate out his eye. After all the harrassment, they finally left him alone. Took him about three days of sitting on the bottom hardly alive to come out and eat anything. Long story short, they both are alive and doing fine. I kinda kick myself for having two in a 55 gallon. I wish I had only one then I could have different fish in the tank.
