2 Dead Clowns

Ok I'm a little worried right now. I've had an established 1 1/2 year old tank now and I have had to common clowns in there the entire time. They were the first fish I bought. About two weeks ago the smaller of the two died. I did a 20% water change just to make sure I wouldn't get any spikes in the water and I didn't. Everything stayed at 0. I could never get either of my clowns to go to their anemone either until the small one died, then the big one started going in it and playing with it and sleeping in it. About two nights ago I noticed that he wasn't in the anemone. The anemone was closed up and he was just kinda swimming where he used to at night again. He wouldn't play with it in the daytime when the anemone was open either. Then this morning I woke up and found him dead behind a rock. Neither of the clowns were showing any signs of sickness to my knowledge the night before they died. And I didn't get a great look at them when I discovered that they were dead because my skunk and couple of snails were doing a number on them. Anybody have any ideas. The only thing I can come up with is that I do have a crab in there that hitchhiked in that might be causing the problem. Any suggestions?
FYI I also have a yellow watchman goby and a purple firefish that are both doing fine and about 15 different corals that seem to be doing well to.

i would think if it was a hitchhiker crab it would go after the watchmen goby first, easier to catch. i know not much help but its all i have, sorry

I have not lost anymore fish. I since have got the crab out of the tank and I have added a gold stripped maroon clown that seems to be doing fine.

I'm glad to hear that you haven't suffered anymore loses.
Everytime I see the title of this thread it seems so sad.
My clowns are my favorite thing in my tank.
I only have a total of four fish so I would be devestated to loose them. And I have only had them for a few months... I can't it imagine what it must feel like after owning them for a year and a half.
I know fish die but you still have my sympathy.

I have also lost two ocellaris clowns, the same exact way! The smaller male died and then two days later the female died. As soon as I found the female dead I tested the water 0,0, 8.2 and did a 20% water change. I can't figure out how they died? I have hermit crabs, no other crabs, a sabae anemone, a blue damsel, and a red mandarin dragonet. The blue damsel has lived with the mandarin dragonet for a while and is extremely peaceful for a damsel. I couldn't find any markings on the clows and all of there fins were okay?
