Some fish will turn pale when the lights are off and color back up when the lights come on. I would say this is the least of your worries though. Is there any way you can ask your dad what the readings were on the tank?

I could ask but I imagine he has forgotten what they are by now. The tanks been running for about 3 or 4 weeks. Is that enough time for it to cycle, because the last fish is doing fine? What exactly is a LFS? I assume it's some sort of fish store.

Sometimes it takes longer to cycle, in order to find out, you have to get your readings on Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, PH, etc. If Ammonia and Nitrite are reading 0 and Nitrate are reading under 20 then your done cycling. Should try to keep your PH around 8.2-8.4
LFS = Local Fish Shop Good Luck! :happyfish

When you get your fish home from the Pet Store, get a 2 1/2 gl. Bucket and put about a gl. of water from your Aquarium in the bucket, then let the bag sit in it for about 30 to 40 minutes. After that open the bag and slowly put the fish in the bucket. Let it stay in the bucket for about an hour. Don't do anything else, wait and wait. After that time has passed net the fish out of the bucket, do not, I repeat pour any of the water in the Aquarium, leave the lights off the Aquarium. Do not feed the fish. Most of the Pet Stores use copper water in their Aquariums. I have 18 Fish in my 55 gal. tank for 6 months and I have yet to loose any off my fish. Be patience???? Scarlet Hermit>>>>

You left out putting some of the tank's water into the bucket!!! Not just acclimating the temp, but the salinity of your tank too! I would pour a cup of water into the bucket about every 15 min, each time when you pour a cup, remove a cup to the drain, make sure you use two separate cups (Clean cups!!!), one for pouring in, one to pour out. Do that about 3-4 times, then dip it out and release into your tank. Just my opinion of it... :happyfish

There's no need to get so nippy! That's your opinion! I still do the cup thing excuse me. Different methods work for different people. That's why I added this if you didn't read it "Just my opinion" So this is my method and that's your method. Let's leave it at that!
