would i be able to put a peppermint shrimp or something like that without flouresent lighting..the other kind,indacesant(spelling)and no live rock..could it happen?

Technically speaking, LR doesn't require special lighting.

ohhhhh so i can put some a little bit of lr in there..oh but it has fresh water gravel and its a hex

Couldn't you easily switch the gravel out and put some nice sand in there? Considering the tank size, I think it'd be relatively easy and may save you some work in the long run.

i agree. i ahd a .5 gallon nano once. i took live sand out of my display tank, along with 2 hermits and 2 astria snails. i also took small pieces of lr out of my display tanks as well, and a couple of coral frags. i put 3 ice cubes in a day to take care of heat and evaporation. of course there were homade ice cubes made out of ro/di water. good luck!
