i but a piece of dead reef from a lfs and he said it was basically right from the ocean dried and needed to be set in water for about 2 weeks to cure it. he also said it wo uld havce tones of little things like polyps grow on it after it cures. so i have it sitting in a tank full of saltwater and a powerhead. i was just wondering if this is right to cure it and if its true things will grow.
second is i was wondering if i just dumped my whole live rock in boiling water if it will kill all the aiptasia on it

Yes it would kill your glass anemones along with the "live" rock. I would invest in peppermind shrimp instead. I just bought 3 myself today for the same reason.

I don't think dead stuff on your reef is coming back to live. I'm sure you'll see things growing eventually but it can't imagine it being something that's not already in your tank....

no it won't eat your other anemones.
as for your dead coral piece from the lfs, it will eventually become alive and will eventually get coraline algae on it, and if you place polyps on it, they will spread. like stated earlier, nothing that isn't already in the tank and touching the dead coral will grow on it. IMO, i wish i wouldn't have put dead coral into my tank, it looks out of place from the live rock. Although, they are homes to many of my live corals, and other livestock.

You'd be amazed at what "comes back to life". My boss bought an entire shipping container of puka shell gravel, tiny 1/8' ones in 25# bags. they sat in the trailer in the blazing sun a summer and we finally sold it as a holiday promotion. A week or so later the LFS owners started calling because after a few days in peoples tanks the pukas got up and started moving around
