2 sumps ?

As everyone knows the space under the tank can be tight. I currently have a sump, skimmer, UV etc...under my tank and the sump is running out of space. I've piped down to my basement to a chiller, so I have a supply and return down there. I would like to take the supply end and dump it into a large sump and pump it through the chiller and back up to the tank upstairs. I can use this sump for future equipment etc..
Does all this make sense ?

Best to have just one sump. Getting two to work is hard because the water levels dont balance out and pumps can slow down or glog up and cause one to over flow ect.
IMO just plumb the main drain down to one super large sump in your basement or move both down there and connect them with a pipe at the same level so every thing can flow thru as if they are just one sump. Hope that makes sence...

Hmmm... good point. And I am usually pretty good with this kind of thing... never considered this.

If they are teh same size tanks for the sumps, and they are the same level, then the water level will be the same for both...
I dont see a problem with the two sumps

I agree with 1 large sump in basement. Look for used 55 gallon in newspaper (usually cheap) and use that. You could even add a refugium in it.

I figure that as long as i return the water at the same rate that the sump fills it should be fine..no?

It would work if you drain the main tank to the first sump in the cabinet and then DRAINED the first sump down to the basement and then pump back to the main tank from the basement sump.
If you want to drain main tank to first sump and then PUMP down to Basement sump and Pump back to main tank then it will not work. Just asking for trouble.
