hey yo man u dont need to have the protien skimmer due to the fact that it is such a small tank. i mean if you had to have a protien skimmer than on every 24gallon biocube or aquapod they would have it. ive had my 14gallon nano for over a year and its still going strong but i am upgradding to a 20gallon long for sps. also u might wanna go with more flow. in my 20gallon i have 2penguin 1140 and a maxijet900 behind the rocks with a flow deflector on it. also for a filter i have a milenum 2000 hob that also has biological filltration. i will be having 50+lbs of lr and 40lbs of lr. also i will be having a 150watt aqua med mh. but back the the protien skimmer part. protien skimmers are designed to take out all the organic material such as iodine and what not. but like i said the tank is so small it really wouldnt do any thing and it would suck literally the nurtients from the water and your corals. the aqua remora c is like what 130. spend that on lr and ls and ull be good and like u probably already no do a 10% water change weekly and ull be set. sry for the lecture.
