You should be all right IMO, it will only be 3" on either side of the light fixture, pc and vho light spreads out pretty good.

I am starting up a 20g Long FOWLR and it measures 30" long and 12" wide. I will have a DIY canopy to cover the tank but was wondering if anyone feels that a 24" PC2x65w Retro fit kit wouldnt be sufficent for spreading the light among the entire tanks surface. THe lights will be about 8"-10" above the waters surface.
The only other option I have to buy a complete 30" hood set but I dont want to have the lighting directly on the tank...I am sure I could find a way to mount it higher in the canopy, but I am also hoping to have the sides of my canopy open. This tank is being set up as a look thru. THanks for any help here.
