210 Reef to Aggressive setup

The last couple of months I have been trying to convert my rather weak reef system to an aggressive setup. The tank is 210 gallons I have a wet/dry, 2 protein skimmers, and UV sterilizer, live sand and some LR. So far I have 1 medium coral banded cat shark, 1 small ray, 2 medium volitan lions, 6 assorted damsels that the lions did not eat, 2 yellow tangs that are left over from the reef, and assorted inverts. I am interested in adding at least one more fish, I am considering a large tang or a show size angel. Any suggestions on additions or subtractions would be appreciated thanks.

A tang would be fine, an angel would not. The angel would pluck the eyes out of the ray and shark and harass them pretty badly. Your yellow tangs would also probably harass a new tang pretty badly as well. This sounds like a set-up very similiar to PSU's. He may have some more suggestions for you when he gets on here.

Thanks alot. I understand some angels might pick at the shark and ray but I was under the impression this wasn't the case with all angels. I was probably misinformed. Is their a hardy tang that anyone would suggest adding to a somewhat already established tank. I have experience with Blue Hippo Tangs as well as Yellow tangs obviously. I like Naso and Sohal tangs and just recently saw pictures of a blue line tang very pretty fish. Thanks for the help.

Well, I would not do a sohal because they are way too aggressive. The hippo will not respond well to being picked on either. Your best bet out of those 3 is the naso.

theres lots of cool tangs you can add but you have to be carefull witht hose yellows as lion said, they will get pretty agggressive. do you havew another tank? if so you can pull the yellows and maybe put your othert tang in first , wait a day then put the yellows back in??
also i wouldnt get any type of angel,, although they can "maybe" co-exsist with sharks and rays do you want to take a chance at it? iw ould love ot get an angle but would never attempt it with a $250 shark and a $150 stingray

Is a Blue Line Tang the same as a Clown Tang? Very pretty fish. It would look great in your tank Sean, aggressive fish too. It says expert only though. On the other hand, so are your shark and your ray.
psusocr1 - $250 shark? $150 stingray? Where do you buy your fish?

well if you can evan find a grey bamboo shark, let alone find him for a good price you let me know! but i DOUBT youll be able to find one....especially as fat , long and healthy as mine.
also as said i order all of or most of my fish, since i trust it more than my lfs so to pay that money for great fish i dont midn at all.
Also what can you get sharks/rays for?? i agree a black banded or white banded bamboo shark i can get for 40-60 bucks as could everyone but i dont want just a "regualr" shark that everyone has i liek to try to find different species. That goes along with epp. sharsks bieng $300 ,,, you pay for what you get

i keep a large variety of tangs and fish with my shark what you want to avoid are triggers and agressive wrasses such as tusk lunears ect also puffers. these are all conciders to be nippers with good reasons.also avoid bottom dwelling fish with your ray and shark they will become snacks for them both.be prepaired to repetedly restock clean up crew for this tank because they will become a midnight snack for any bottom dwelling shark and rays(its what they eat) good fish are active free swimming angels normally will be fine as long as your not keeping corals.flame hawks are very good choice as a small fish one per tank only (very smart fish)but territorial.if you keep your shark and ray well fed most fish will be safe no garentee on any invert lol.find the species your wanting go to your LFS and request it personally .a good LFS will find it for you even some of the most difficult species.if your willing to pay th price their more than willing to make a sale. also if your looking for a banded cat shark young. be sure its captive bred. wild caught shark have a habit of not feeding well in captivity.seaworld is now breeding smaller sharks this is where mine came from(white spotted bamboo)
