220gal Help needed fast!!!!!

Went to look at a used setup last night, Heres the deal:
220gl w/ stand, powerheads, UV ster., pump, (like mini pool pump for return) MH, 200+ pd of rock (he said live, I say base - but still nice.) sand.
$1,000.00 or BO.
Here's the bad news. The stand need to be rebuilt, no prob I can do that. But the back of the tank where the glass meets, there is a 1/2 the size of a penny crack in the glass. The tank is up and running, and you could see that its not leaking there, but it scared the cr*p out of me. The crack is not in the middle or anything, its right where the back panel & side meet. Like it goes into the glass on the back. Is this safe or am I just freekin for nothing. I think its a good deal, but it really does scare me. NEED HELP QUICK!!!! Should I keep looking??

Im going to pass....I dont trust any kind of cracking when that mush pressure is involved. Going to call on a 200gl complete setup for $1,200 of BO. Hopefully in better cond. Thanks!!

Cracks in glass do not usually just sit there doing nothing, they get bigger and bigger and bigger, until the side of the tank starts pouring water all over your room....

Which pane has the crack? If it is a side panel it can be repaired without a lot of expense. My 125 I picked up really cheap because the side panel was cracked during shipment.
I had some thick window glass in my garage that I cut to fit on the inside. I removed the factory silicone seal and placed my cut sheet of glass on the inside of the tank directly on the cracked pane (you get better strength if you leave the old piece in). I then siliconed it back up. It has been setup for over a year and has not leaked. I'll have to get a picture one of these days and post it.
If you repaired the 220's side panel, I would go with 3/8" glass right inside the old. Lowes or HD should be able to cut a piece to size for you.
That being said, I would not attempt it if you are not comfortable with working with silicone. Getting a good seal is the most important part. I would also not give the guy his full asking price.
My dad used to work on old houses, anytime they tore out an old picture window he would bring it home. We cut the sheets ourselve and made a couple of tanks. The 40 gallon long refugium I have was cut and siliconed together from a single pane of glass.

It was on back panel. 72x30.......its all good though, lookin at a 180 complete - skimmer, pc lights, pumps, filter, 1yr old in excellent cond. $1,000. Its been in the paper for a week, so Ill offer 800 and see how it goes. Thanks for the replys:)

Dopped off $500 dep. on the 180 about 1/2 hour ago.:jumping: I pd the full $1,000 after I seen the condition, I couldnt believe the guy was selling for that price!! Well worth it. Im pickin up this weekend, then youll see the pics of converting my 55 to the 180!!!:cheer: Lights alone were worth 500-600$'s
