Next wekend I'm geting a 225 gal reef set up
. My first of many questions is the floor supporting it. The tank will cover 4 of the floor joist which are 2 X 10's. The tank is 6 foot long. I figured 3000 lbs after everything is done. This in turn is saying that 750 lbs per joist. Do I ned to add any extra support in my basement?

You are putting this on a second floor? or basement? I have a 240gall and it is about 3500lb thats a car. I would not put that big of tank on anything but a slab. :scared:

I put my 125 over floor joists that I supported every 3 feet (This room has a crawl space not slab). If you put it over a basement you can use floor jacks from joists to floor but YES, YOU WILL need to support it atleast 3 places IMO.
It has to be perfectly level and strong. Good luck.

it has to be well over 3000 lbs, with tank stand your looking at somewhere between 3-500 lbs. on the light side then water will weigh. water weighs a little ober 8 pounds so you will have about 1600 pounds with 200 gallons in there , then for a reef tank you will have another 5-600 pounds of live rock? maybe more... ALSO the water in your sump/refugium??? for a 220 it should be about a 40-60 gallon setup so thats another 320 lbs at 40 gallons
IMO i wouldlnt try to risk it at all , thats alot of money to throw away god forbid something happens to the tank and the house??
let us know what you decide im very interested

What I'm debating is a structial supporting wall in the basement. As of now I'm going to put the sump and fudge in the basement and the tank in the living room. Thank you for all of the replies and any more is welcomed. i will post pics when this starts.

well a gallon of water weighs 9lbs so times that by 225 and then lr, ls, and yeah you may need to nail another 2X10 next to the others...
