Hey Mike, looks to be a good start.
I think your LR is fine, but it does look like you have about 15 pounds in there now and I would do what Subie said and get another 10-15 pounds in there. You will want to do this as soon as possible so the cycle goes smoothly.
As for that hair algae, is it growing on the back wall? I think now is the perfect time to get it while you can especially since your tank isnt that full. Scape off that algae and remove it from the tank. Keep off your lights for now. I wouldnt worry about it too much, as long as your on top of it, getting the proper filtration going, you will get rid of it. Check out Nissan's, Subielovers, and Catfishcity's thread and they really turned their tanks around with the algae. I think your in a good position because your just starting.
Feel free to post test results too!

well i have a nice up date!!!! i got some more live rock and i got some chaeto!!! it is getto rigged right now but it will do for about a week (maybe less). i also made a stupid mistake and i hope it doesnt cost me, i started to scrape the hair algae off the back wall and i left the power heads on
. so it blew around every where and i hope it doesnt cause a huge out break. but the only power head i have running is the one in the filter so i hope that helps. i also got rid of the sponges in the back and put in filter floss!!! well here are some updated pics.

nice deep sand bed, should be nice for my pistol shrimp and goby

new rock

Looks awesome, but i would add more/larger holes in the cup so the cheato gets more flow and doesnt turn into sludge in the cup

not too sure yet. i dont want to upgrade the normal lights yet so probably something that needs a mild amount of lighting.

hey Mike, setup is starting to look good. i like your eggcrate rack.
How are your test parameters now? Have you cycled yet? A couple days ago you had some ammonia in there which may not be good for Scoobie if there is some now. Its important to let the tank cycle first before you add fish. Its also best to do a water change after the cycle is complete.
A good general rule is not to rush things in this hobby!
Let us know your test results for today. Its good to be testing every couple days when you are cycling.
good luck!!!

yea i have been testing everyday, and my ammonia is now at 0 the only issue i am having is my ph is kinda low. i also did do a water change this weekend (thats when i too the pics) and tested it again 2 hours after and everything was great!!! is there anyway to raise the ph up just a tiny bit? i am about to test again so i will let you know what the results are.

yes there is but i dont know much about it. i've never had to do it, but i believe its a two part solution, kalk and something else? sorry i dont know much about it...
i know alkanity plays a part in pH as well, as a high number of it will help maintain the pH you need.

well having the lr out of water for 45min killed all the bacteria that it had. so thats bad. and so it will get a spike but not a slight one. the saltwater you get from your lfs is good but you have to create the spike your self. just put a raw shrimp there.
it looks great though!

Doubt it. You ever gotten lr shipped in only wet newspaper? It's still as good as any lr. You leave it out for 4+ hours, then maybe. But the rock is so porious (sp?) that bacteria are very much alive and kicking internally in the rock.
Also, I still support damsels over the shrimp/ghostfeeding method.
