Ive been having Issues with adequate filtration in my 24g. I need some opinions on what everyone has done to their aquapod to customize it. Filter, Flow, #lbs of LR, What is in your back chamber? How long has your tank been up? Any Ammonia Nitrite issues?
As of now I cut a piece of acrylic to block of the bottom 3 vents to the back chamber seeming to increase flow, this is helping. Im still using both blue sponges stacked from the bottom to hold the acrylic piece in place. Does anyone use the sponges still? On top of the sponges im using a polyester filter sheet to catch any loose particles that flow down on it, I also have no protien waste on my surface(great thing). Im also running a small bag of carbon in the back.
Should I just be stacking the back chamber with LR instead? and How So?
Anything else u can help me with please say something.
Jeeze I can run a 55g no problem but when it comes to tiny tanks im stumped lol.

I've had my 24AP running since may'07 and haven't had any probs with AMM,Trites or Trates.
I have 25lbs of LS, 30lbs of LR, 2lbs of LR rubble in the first chamber. I run all the weirs in with the top 1/2" open. no foam filters or bioballs
Right now I still run the stock pump and added a powersweep 210 for added flow.
I do a 10% WC every week and run a current nanoskimmer every other week the night before the WC to help clean off the topskim from feeding. Once a month for 3 days I run a bag of carbon to polish the water.
I asked these same questions when I started and people on this forum and others recommend these methods, and so far it has been successful.

Good Luck

I have a 24g aquapod for about a year and a half now. I recently decided to change my setup and go with a reef. I do however have a serious nitrate problem. Besides doing the maxijet 1200 upgrade, I have been told it is a good idea to get rid of the bio balls, ceramic media and the 2 blue sponges. I am currently designing a sump setup using a 16 gallon tall tank which will house a skimmer and possibly a refugium. I am still in design stages for this but will soon create a thread on here with pictures of my progress.

I have a 24 gallon aquapod as well....
I am not quite sure how much live sand live rock, but I believe it is sufficient. I removed the bioballs, blue sponges etc. I have a rio 1100 powering my main inlet in the upper left corner. Also in the compartment is my skimmer (an aqua c remora) and my heater and my grounding probe. In the ther compartment I have pumps for my phosban reactor and for my chiller...
I dont have any problems with ammonia or nitrites, but do have some nitrate issues...
I am currently working on getting those down and have been thinking about trying to add some live rock rubble t the back compartment, but I am not sure where I would put it....
I also have added a maxijet 400 to flow water across the back and I have a koralia nano pump coming in the mail this week....

I have 2 set up and have had no significant water quality issues...I removed the bioballs (I think I took the ceramic out too but I cant remember). I had fission skimmers but quit using them because I dont think they did much and since I change about 25% of the water a week probably dont need them...One tanks has about 80 lbs of rock the other 60.
I do use the small powerhead fromt he skimmers in my rockpile for circulation.
I took the blue sponges and cut them into 2 1.5 inch thick pads that I use to collect the solida particles that come throu the skimmers....I rinse them every other day or so. I keep the entire grate closed off except at the surface...
