I am not so concerned with the heat really, however I know that once I get MH I am going to switch to SPS . . . what I don't want is a Ca reactor or to be dosing 50+ml of B-Ionic everyday.

if your going to be switching to sps YOU MUST dose alot of ca or get a reactor.... otherwise your gunna be killing alot of colonies...

and after the intial set up of a reactor it is only like 40 a yr for a ca reactor..... and btw if you dont want to do either of the 2 i sugest you dont keep sps

I have no problems setting up a reactor, and I know that its cheaper . . . I just dont want to do that on such a small tank. When I get a larger system then a reactor would be worth it to me . . . but not for a 20.

I think I might have just had a crazy idea! This would solve all my problems if it would work. Now before you laugh at me, just note that I have no idea about MH bulbs, never had them, never really looked into them...
With that said... Would a 175w MH bulb on the left side, and a 250w MH on the right side of the 120 gallon tank be noticible? Both would be the hamilton 14k bulbs. This would solve all my problems because I would be able to run the 175 in my 20 gallon with no problem... and when I upgrade and put it in the 120 gallon I could have some softies up toward the top on the left side, so I wouldnt worry about burning up some softies.
This would work if the different in light intensity is not noticible. Does anyone know if this idea would just completely look... weird?

Its only wierd if you think its wierd . . . . its your tank remember!
(P.S. I don't know the answer . . . I think that it might be a novel idea!)
