29 biocube tank

I am new to this hobby and after being successful with my 14g biocube tank I am now setting up my 29g biocube tank. The question I have regarding the 29 biocube is about the lid in particular. With my 14 biocube, the lid is on hinges so it makes it easy to maintain the tank, and access the ******** of the tank. But with the 29 biocube, it doesn't have anything like that, it is is very awkward having to juggle the lid and setting up the tank with live rocks etc. Is there a way to prop up the lid without causing damage to the tank? Or do I have to get used to having to comletely remove the lid everytime I add something to the tank, or for maintenance?

Unfortunately, I know all too well what you are talking about. I had the 14 gallon Biocube too and upgraded to the 29 and was disappointed to learn that the 29 doesn't have hinges for the lid to stay propped open while doing maintenance, etc. When I do my weekly water changes, I have to just take the whole lid off and prop it against the side of the tank. (my tank is at work on top of my credenza) It's also irritating because even if you lift the lid a little to reach in with one hand to move something while using the other hand to hold the top open, it becomes misaligned in the back sometimes and you have to take the whole thing off and rearrange again. I have 4 cords (2 Koralia 1 powerheads, 100w stealth heater and Oceanic Biocube skimmer) that have to fit just right into those slots in the back in order for the lid to fit properly and if one of those cords move a little to the side when I am working on my tank, guess what? Gotta straighten the lid out again!

It's a big pain, but I don't know of any other way around it. Don't know why they manufactured the 29 this way....

BTW.... welcome to the boards and to the Nano section!~

thanks for the welcome. I guess it will just be something I will have to get used to. Hopefully once the tank has completed its cycling and is more establised I won't have to access the tank quite so much, and not have the hassle of aligning the lid so often!
