Neon Dottieback is pretty colorful, I have one in my 30gl. Fun to watch. I have had him for a year or 2. Hmmmmmmmmmmm...... maybe some clown gobies. Those fish are cool as hell.
JMO, hope this helps some. Those aren't really exotic fish I named LOL.

Mandarins require larger tanks.
But I am definitly one of the people that say, you never know until you try.
They need a lot of LR.

My neon isn't aggressive at all. My clowns are more aggressive then my neon dottieback.
But that don't mean they are all not agressive.
Sorry it took so long to answer back, I went to bed right after I read your post, and now I'm setting in class, bout to take my final, LOL.

I really like the painted fairy wrasse.....it has awesome color, but I think it is not invert safe. Then again I am not an expert, so I might be wrong.....

Fairy Wrasses are indeed invert safe. They are extraordinarily peaceful-except to conspecifics. However, they also require quite a bit of swimming room as they are very active. Fish that are not tremendously active swimmers do better in smaller tanks.
Perching fish like hawks or small gobies, Psuedochromis, grammas-fish that mainly 'hang out' A firefish Gobie hangs in the air and is very attractive as is the purple psuedochromis or royal gramma. A pair (male and female) of PJ cardinals would work as well and their coloration is pretty 'exotic'. OR-a jawfish or gobie would work if you have a sand substrate. You could do a specimin tank with just your clowns, an anemone and add some shrimp, a serpent star, etc. and have a wonderful tank.
