Searcher,
I am cycling a 29 gallon as I type and had a few questions for you.
1. Do you have a protein skimmer, or do your frequent water changes eliminate the need?
2. What kind of lighting are you using?
3. Any other tips?
Thank you in Advance

rjmang,
I do not have a protein skimmer. I do however, recommend that you use one.
The lighting is a 96 watt smart lamp it's one bulb which is half white and half blue. I don't know much about lighting and it's the only kind I've used so I can't compare it to anything else. The manufacturer claims it's good for a year but I've found that changing it every 6 months works better.
As far as tips, I would say buy some books. All of the books for sale by the host of this site are good.
Additionally, keep it simple. Almost everything in my tank is considered a beginner coral or fish. Although the corals are hardy and easy to propogate, I still find them interesting and attractive. Same goes for the fish. Tank bred false percs are inexpensive and great for a smaller tank.
Xenia works great for nutrient export. Before I added the xenia my nitrates hovered around .2 and .5. Ever since the xenia started growing my nitrates have been zero.
Save money, by frags. You'll also get a more natural look to your tank.
Add a small scoop of live sand every 3 months.
Be patient, and take everyone's advice (including mine) with a grain of salt.
