First I would like to thank in advance to everyone for helping...
I've been colelcting tarantulas for the last 4 years and ALWAYS wanted a saltwater fish tank so finally I decided to get myself one so here's the outcome:
Jebo 29 Gallons
Jebo 835 Canister Filter
Prime
Salt
40 Lbs Live Sand
1 Blue Damsel
20 Lbs Live Rock
My tank has been up since last friday and these are the instructions I followed from the fish store;
1 Filled my tank with tap water
2 Add prime let it run for 1 Hr
3 Add Salt to 1.022 and let run for 2 hours
4 Add Live Sand and Started acclimating fish
5 After the water cleared out I let my fish loose
those where the steps followed and the water has been running for 1 week with a blue damsel in it, the fish has been eating good and I already ordered my masters test kit (should be here within 3-4 days)
I would like to add more fishes specially my dream fish a P. volitans (i know damsel has to go) but would also like some Invertebrates and corals and some other colorful fishes.
I know the rule of thumb is do not put anything that can fit on the lion's mouth but how long would i let rum my tank now before i get to put invertebrates, corals & more fishes?
Thanks for the help.
-.Raul

First....don't listen to anything more that your fish store says.
You need to wait for your tank to cycle....usually a minimum of 4 weeks. Then after that you should add your clean up crew and wait another week or so and then slowly start adding fish.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but a Volitan will not fit in a 29 Gallon tank.

Also, if you are going to want coral...you will have to raise your salt level to at least 1.025. Does the tank have a skimmer and what kind of lights does it have.
Also, 20 pounds of live rock is insufficent for a reef tank.

Thanks for your response... do you know where do I find more info about cycling the water?
About the Lion I will get a 2-3" for now and I'm aware that within 18 months it will reach 12" so it's on my plans to get at least a 65 Gal within the next 6 months.
The lamp has 2 36w 1white and 1actinic.
No skimmer yet as I was told to wait for 1 month to get the skimmer.
Will add more live rock.. would 40 be enough?

For a full size volitan, IMO you will need 100 gallons or more.
Also the volitan is not really reef safe. What you need to do is figure out a livestock list....what you really want to keep...from there we can help you make decision on reef or fish-only and what livestock will work well with others, etc.
At least another 40 pounds would be good...but again, that all depends on reef or fish-only.
Waiting on a skimmer, yeah thats fine.

well my pocket will hurt but i think i can do the 100...
as far as a list of fish well the deal was that I get my lion and my fiancee will get colorful fishes but she hates the fact that the lion would eat pretty much anything... and on the compatibility chart well the lion it's basically compatible with almos nothing lol..
Anybody keeping any "cute" colorful fishes with lion's? (what spp)
If it was up to me i would get anglers and scorpions...

if the 20lbs of liverocks u bought were cured, ur tank wont go through a cycle. u should really wait 2 weeks b4 adding anything else, but not b4 u tested the water again. ass another 10-15 lbs of cured lr for a 29 gallon unless u do water change like crazy.

Yes the l r was cured that's what the guy said but to be honest I didn't paid attention to that.
Will do I will wait for my test kit to get here, wait another week and run a test to make sure it's all good before adding more fishes.

Check out Zebra lions. IMO, they look the most simmaler to the volitians and are considered darwfs.
Thanks bro I will... although the black and white pattern on the volitans it's just too cool.

black and white volitians? I thought true volitians were more of a redish color *shrug* I don't know a lot about them other than they look awesome though lol. Anyway for a 29 gallon you really do need to stick with smaller fish. As for the starting your tank with tap water... well, admittedly I did the same thing initially and got VERY lucky that my tank is doing ok still with no major water changes. Apparently we have decent tap water here, so I can get by with just an on tap water purifier (think britta lol). Look into possibly getting an RODI unit or at least RO, or buying RO water from wal-mart or somewhere else. I have a 29 gallon that has been up and running for 5 months now myself and I love it. You can still do a lot of cool things with a 29 gallon. I myself went with 2 clowns a nem and a flame angel with a nifty CUC including a coral banded a watchman goby and a pep shrimp(though they don't survive long term in reef temps). Anyhow just here to wish well on your ventures, and hopefully you get as lucky as I did lol. Also if you have any questions I can't promise I know the best answer but I'll be glad to try to help you, cause it sure sounds like you don't need to listen to your LFS anymore... did they actually advise you to start it with tap water? oyy..
