2nd round of hypo

I do think I will order the cupramine on line so I can treat the remaining fish and kill the ich that is in the QT tank. At least I have a QT set up now. Trying to decide what fish quest to take after this whole mess is cleared up. I love tangs, but they are so prone to ich. I've go awhile before I'll be able to do that, so there is time to consider!

The 3 remaining fish seem good, they may have slight ich present buy not like the other fish. I need to get my salinity back to normal regardless of which method I go with. I'll be in an area on Sunday that may have some pet stores with different products. I'll check those when I 'm there. Whole thing is a bummer especially when I had it all under control with the hypo. I just slacked the last few days with top offs, Argh.
Jamie, how high did the SG go durring your hypo? I have seen failed hypos many times, but they don't usualy have this outcome. It is usually just a spot or two and the fish are fine. Has anything else happened? This is most unusual.

I think there was a few factors here. I didnt have a QT tank started from the beginning, so it was a thrown together QT. I did use as much water as possible from my DT, but all the same. I dont think water got above 1.010 or 1.011. It is a 45 gallon tank that had 2 tangs and several other fish as well. One of the tangs who brought on the ich was pretty infected. I also should have been better about keeping up with water params. I'm not sure how accurate my test kits were. Sometimes the reading didnt seem quite right for what was going on in the tank. My ph barely changed with adding the lower salinity water. That seems strange to me. Ammonia was slight from the beginning, that also never changed, so I dont know if my test kits were faulty of what, but anyway......... I still have 3 fish left. I am still raising SG. Havent seen a spot on them, havent started the copper yet either. I really think the long term hypo killed my tangs. I kept them in way to long and their immune systems couldnt take the ich that attached. Thats my guess anyway. In February I will get some new fish and try again. This time hopefully smarter and wiser. One good thing comes of all this, I have a QT setup and I will never put a fish into my DT again without QT'ing it!

I started my QT tank/procedures after a bad case of Ich 2 years ago. Hopefully we all get wiser as we get older/more experienced.....and in my case stiffer as the temperature gets colder!

Hope the remaining fish do well!

Ah Jamie, I am so sorry that you lost some of your fish. Hypo realy does work, just needs to be monitored. When you do copper on the others it will need to be monitored just as much if not more so. Keep us posted
