Hello my tank has been setup 3 weeks now and has turned to godawful brown and i have tuffs of green hair(wich i dont mind)at least its color.I bought a seachem ammonia dot yesterday cause my test gave me a between reading.Well the dot says im safe however my nitrite and nitrate are still off the charts and have been for the whole time.Is there somthing i should do?I know this takes awhile but when nothing changes it is discouraging:(.I never did get any hitchikers on my rock either wich is also saddening. Can anyone help with what to do?Another thing is i mixed up a batch of saltwater and did tests on that it contains 0.05 of nitrite,is this bad?
thnx for any help

What kind of water are you using (Tap/Ro/Distilled?) That awful brown is diatoms and is normal for new tanks. What size of tank do you have and how much LR and LS do you have in there?

Either your test kit is no good or you don't know how to read it properly or your water is BAD. Where are you getting your water?

I used distilled water and did a 10% water change 2 weeks ago with ro/di water. im using red marine test kits and the test color is a deep red wich is above 1ppm,chart for 0 is a very light blue,so i dont think im reading it wrong:)i have a 75g aga with megaflo and 100 pounds of caribsea aragonite. The batch of water i tested was ro/di water.

FWIW, hitchhikers will often show up months later. You'll be surprised. I have tons of feather dusters on my rocks now that weren't apparently there to start. Lots of different worms, too. Don't lose hope!

You have nothing in there but argonite sand?? No live rock? How is your tank going to cycle, if you don't put anything into it? Go to the store and buy some uncooked shrimp, and throw one in there to get the cycle started.

He's got live rock. Maybe it's cured. Throw in a dead shrimp or start feeding the tank fish food. That will get your cycle moving.
