I run VHO in my tank, but I don't have any corals or anemones right now. From my understanding, you can keep things like mushrooms, zoo's, bta's, etc. You CAN"T keep the more light demanding corals and anemones.
You may know this already, but keep in mind that you have to have a VHO ballast if you plan on using VHO bulbs. They won't work with normal flouresent lighting.
well the fish store i buy things from is not really on the up and up with lights for some reason and i want the best lights in my tank because i have a anenome and a pair ofclowns in that tank and i dont want it to die and thanks for messing up my day i just bought that new hood and lights and now i have to go buy more
they do sell retro-fit kits! check into em.. since u prolly already have the fixture, u just need the ballast and wire em up.. best to go with for now is Metal Halide!
I agree, metal halides will be the best you can get. They cost more than the VHO, but in the end you will probably be better off and can have just about any coral or anemone that you want. ...wish I had gone with metal halides.
i just started out...tand is a little over 4 weeks old, so i went with the pc's.. imo u shouldnt add corals in the first year anyways, so i will upgrade when i am ready! everyone goes their own direction with lighting, and sometimes u have to upgrade further later on.. if ur tank is not mature, i would wait until you are going to USE the halides before getting em..
