30 gallon

I've been cycling my 30 gallon, but all I've got on it right now is a hang on back filter with the activated carbon pads. It's going to be FOWLR and I'm only going to have probably 2 fish so I'm not looking to spend a pile of money, so my question, if I have about 40 pounds of live rock, enough live sand, and a protein skimmer, will the hang on filter be enough filtration? also, what is a good economical skimmer for this size tank?

The HOB filter should be fine for you purpose (running carbon), your LR and LS and protein skimmer are all the filtration you really need. I would recommend a CPR skimmer, look for a used one and you can pick it up for under $75.

yeah, im certainly no expert...but as far as i know its even possible to go without a skimmer if your LR/LS are doing the trick...so i think you definately should be fine

Pontius,
I've read other postings in which people said you don't need a protein skimmer for FOWLR, but it will help. If you plan to be good about water changes you will probably be ok without one.
